Plato for Pleasure

This is a small-size hardback.
'The works of Plato have generaly been in the hands of philosophers and scholars when they ought to have been in the hands of the people.' These words with which Plato for Pleasure opens largely indicate its purpose, and the title does the rest. It seeks to show that Plato is a popular author, very good to read even if we are not philosophers and know no Greek. Allowing that the Platonic Dialogues are rather strange stuff, the book tries to tell the beginner what to expect and to explain te significance of the chief characteristics and difficulties he will discover. It does not try at all to make a ystem of philosophy out of Plato's writings, but points to their interest and charm and humour. For that reason, these pages have some appeal also to those already familiar with the subject.

Journal Entry 3 by Newtie from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Wednesday, March 8, 2006
I was stuck in the rat race, once again not paying any attention to those faces around me that melt into one on my journey to work every morning.
Propped up against a beam was a book with the note- 'FREE BOOK I'm NOT LOST! Take me home'. The words 'I'm NOt LOST!', produced a smile which is rarley seen in the hour before I start work, and it grew even bigger when I saw that title- Plato for pleasure.
I've been meaning to buy an idiots guide to philosphers, now I have no need as someone out there has has given me words for free and the chance to do something I've also wanted to do.
Thanks you book crosser and I'll add my own book to the multitude that will soon be seen around town.
It's really made my day, I'm smiling as I'm writing this.
