Really good book. Lots of twists and turns and action. I couldn't put it down. Patricia Briggs has created a fantastic world.

Opening Sentence: "...I didn't realise he was a werewolf at first..."

Mercy Tompson is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf - the Alpha of the local pack. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy is supernatural too - she is a shape changer.

Very quickly the story explodes into action - her next door neigbour is beaten up and a new wolf under his protection is killed. On top of that his human daughter has been kidnapped. Someone is out murdering werewolves. Mercy has to figure out what is going on and why before the werwolves of the USA 'come out' publicly.

A really good story with plenty of twists and turns as Mercy investigates. Even with her animal instincts is difficult to know who to trust. This is the first in a series and I will be looking out for the rest of them. There is humour, adventure, fights and hints of romance, without descending into total erotica that many paranormal authors think is necessary.
