The Book of Laughter and Forgetting : Revised Edition

I picked this up at my local used book shop. It caught my eye because it had been mis-shelved out of alphabetical order, and because it has an interesting title.
As I'm registering it, I notice that the author is Czech. A quick google confirms that he didn't leave there until his 50's, although it appears he has primarily lived in France for the past 30 years. Since he seems to consider himself a Czech, I'm going to count him as a Czech author in my attempt to read authors from 202 different countries.

I found this book somewhat disconnected. It had a very intellectual, post-modern feel to it. For instance, in the midst of a story, appears this passage:
This entire book is a novel in the form of variations. The individual parts follow one another like individual stretches of a journey leading toward a theme, a thought, a single situation, the sense of which fades into the distance.
On the good side, I did find some interesting thoughts in here about the effect that totalitarian government has on the lives and attitudes of people.
This book is now reserved to send to sinang once I get an address.

Went to the Post Office with this on July 25. It's Surface Mail, so could take 4 to 6 weeks, as it was more than twice the cost to send it by air. Enjoy.

Thank you for sending the book over here! It arrived here last Friday but I was out of town. ;)
The Unbearable Lightness of Being is my all-time favorite book and I can't wait to see if I'm going to fall in love with this one as well. ;)
