I could not resist picking this book up earlier rather than later - as I really enjoy a good Shreve.
I was not disapointed - and shed a tear or two too. I first cried while watching Dr Who on DVD (the one with Rose's father) - Dan thought the chlorine had got to my eyes in the pool!! Then I went up to finish this book in peace - and cried then too - then I read a whole other book (Sam's Letters to Jennifer) and blubbed through that one too! It was an emotional evening!
I won't spoil the ending - but this was a love story written alternately from the view points of the couple who had met at 14 for one week at a camp but the memory stayed with them always. They met again first exchanging letters then inevitably in person - and we are taken through the agonising decisions they made being drawn to each other and yet having families they were betraying at home. Maybe a lesson to those thinking of contacting people through Friend's Re-United - just don't go there!
