Onto the TBR pile...
A very Ballardian novel but not, I think, one of his very best. There are many typical Ballardian elements there, familiar from some of his other works: a hot climate, high-rise buildings, cars, psychopathic violence, madness and strange sexual practices. These are combined with numerous stylistic riffs that I enjoyed but, nevertheless, the book didn't quite hang toegther for me. Perhaps this is because it is a thriller it has certain 'plot obligations' that are not (IMHO) usually part of Ballard's stories, perhaps this is because the main protagonist wasn't wholely convincing in my eyes. Still, overall, I'm pleased to have read it. Ballard, even when not at his prime, is so much better than other novelists at their best.
Looked intriguing, so snaffled from tonight's meet.
