Life in the Land of the Living

Bought to be the V in my 2006 A-Z Challenge.
An interesting book that, for me, read somewhat like a modern urban equivalent of William Faulkner. Set in modern Florida, this violent and perhaps rather depressing story tells of of two boys living with an alcoholic father after their mother has moved out to live with her new man. The main narrator is the younger, more intelligent brother, but the POV swaps (to my mind) too abruptly at various junctures to the other illiterate and 'damaged' brother. This caught me out several times. Nevertheless, it's an ambitious first book dealing with the major themes of live, death and the disintegration of family and society. Worth reading.

Picked up at Kingston meetup in March - it'll be my 'V' book.
Have made executive descision that I will *not* read this book (!!) This is the first BC book I've picked up and decide not to read. However, I only got it to read as part of my Alphabet challenge and now I have a Jules Verne that I'd rather read instead. Am going to tak to the August London BC Meetup to see if anyone else would liek it - or pass it back to Urbanspaceman for the organic book stall!
Scooped up at the end of the London Meetup last night, to be released on Sunday 10 September from the BookCrossing stand at the Tolworth Organic Festival in Kingston upon Thames.
