Started this but haven't finished. Short stories are not my fave and this just isn't holding my interest. I will pass it along -- hopefully to someone who will enjoy it more than me.

A book of essays that the author wrote for his daughter - lovely vignettes that you can dip into a little at a time or drink in large gulps. These show the love the author has for family - both his own childhood growing up in a small town and his daughter's childhood in New York City - totally different and yet in so many ways the same.

One quote I loved:

"...Life is also like the waves. Waves signifying highs and lows. Being in the trough and not being able to see ahead; being on top and seeing it all so clearly. Waves as fun and variety; waves as challenges and obstacles.
A wave approaches and we pause, weigh risks and benefits, the chance of success and the cost of failure. Sometimes you hang back and take the lumps; other times you charge straight ahead, running straight at the challenge. And often enough, you decide just right and have a wonderful ride."
