Many thanks Sue - I am looking forward to reading this series having enjoyed the Ender and the Alvin series by the same author.

I am affraid this series went kind of off the boil in the end. I just felt preached at as they followed what happened on earth and described what was happening with the various religions - and belief in the 'keeper of the Earth'. I had to finish the book to end the story off - but I really struggled through. I think the author's Christian beliefs were coming through strongly and thinly veiled and less emphasis was on the characters and story which made it boring.

5 out of 10

I didn't like this book at first, because the characters were different from the previous books, and the plot was sometimes boring. The good thing is that the book was better toward the end.
Still, in my opinion this was the worst book in this series.

I have to agree with MiuM. After you've followed the lives of some people in 4 previous books it was first hard to get used to the fact that you have to learn and remember now bunch of new people. But after some reading when I remembered somehow who was who the story turned out to be quite interesting. But when the story continued sometimes I thought it was very boring but in some places I really enjoyed reading it. The end was somehow lame, I thought that in this book all the big questions regarding the Keeper of the Earth and Oversoul would have been answered but... no.

But nevertheless, it was nice to finish this great saga! Thanks MiuM! Next one is Hippolein!

7 out of 10

Finished this one yesterday evening, have to confess that I didn't feel first like starting it, with all the not so good comments before...

But have to tell that I liked it, was a bit more in the style of the first one, with lot of teology waved into the story (and with that as study subject it got more interesting),
The way you feel they are growing slowly towards a happy end (guess that was the idea of the book, to make a happy end on the series) makes you wonder what the writer had as idea for this series after all. Funny is also that they seem to think that only America exists in the world (at least that's how I understood the explanation about how the world looked like then...) and no word about anything else.
The end could have been a bit more elaborated, but I like the way they get the idea of the Keeper and the Oversoul getting a new task to fulfill .

Now off trying to contact the next person on the list (keeping fingers crossed with the new site and being the month of July!)

I knew I would have trouble with this because there would be all new characters. It didn't make it any easier that there were again different ways to call people. In the beginning I tried to study carefully who is who but I still didn't keep up with who's who and who did what. So in the end I just wanted to get it over with this book...I did enjoy reading some parts of this book but I couldn't follow the story properly.

Edit: I didn't mail it because the package was so thick that it would have cost a lot more, so I'll repack it thinner and try again tomorrow.

11.8. Finally got it mailed. Hopefully it gets safely there despite my patchwork-envelope (I took the stamp& address-part of my previous package and taped them to this one...)

5 out of 10

I was very disappointed with this book. Seems like Card had run out of plot and had to add padding. The story could have been brought to an end in the fourth book. And I agree with the previous readers, the religion was overwhelming and very annoying in the book.
It was hard to start caring about the new characters, and I didn't feel like they brought anything new to the story. And the ending of the book was so sugarly sweet I was started worrying about catching diabetes.

I think every author has a 'soapbox-book' and I guess this was Cards.

Disappointing ending to the series.
