When I first read this book, I knew that I wanted to read more of the series. The sense of learning some Egyptology as well as something about 20th century Egypt combined with a light, deft mystery was enough to draw me in. I love the characters and the style of Elizabeth Peters - high Victorian, a fitting style for the emanicpated Amelia.
Having lived many years in Cairo, I am delighted to send this book out to others to discover and enjoy. Hope it make the rounds of all the tourist sights in this country and moves on to others!!

Just 'caught' this book from a friend in Cairo. I've never read Elizabeth Peters' works before, but I'm definitely in the right setting to get introduced!

Iplan to read and then release it at Lialy Hostel in Downtown Cairo. If you're in the area, come and ask for it! (8 Talaat Harb Sq. Cairo, Egypt)

Tuesday, November 26, 2002 -- Haven't quite finished it but find it charming and amusing thus far. Will jot down the author and am interested in reading more in the series. Actually picked it up in Cairo and form the looks of the spine thot it hadn't been reaad before. Was going to take it back to Cairo as am returning there in a few days and I thot it would have a greater chance of being read/passed on from the hostel I picked it up in (Lialy Hotel, Cairo), but as it's been there for sometime I think I'll leave it up here. Not sure where, but probably somewhere in the vacinity of the Cecil Hotel (but not the Cecil as it's a five star hotel and does NOT fit into my budget!!). HOopefully it will continue on it's way...

I found the book at the Phranakorn Nornlen hotel, around the corner from the UN. It was the only novel in English, so I gave it a try. At first, I found Miss Amelia annoying and uptight, and I didn't think I'd finish the book. But she grows on you, and I really got caught up in the story. When my work in Bangkok, was done, I took the book to Manila, and on to Dumaguete and the Atlantis Dive Resort, where I spent my entire first day of vacation reading in a hammock. Ahhhhh!

Excellent vacation read, funny and exciting. Picked it up from a friend and am almost done reading it. I'm debating a good place to leave it for others to find and enjoy.
