Received by post from Gooner. I've read some of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective books but this is based in Edinburgh - will be good to read something else by this author.

Thanks Gooner.

Journal Entry 3 by candy-is-dandy from Great Bardfield, Essex United Kingdom on Monday, July 3, 2006
I thought I would enjoy this as I have the No1 Ladies detective Agency series but I just could not get into it. I found the main character an intellectual snob. Theere was too much of the author (through Isabel) showing off about his knowledge of art, scottish poets and obscure philosophy, not enough of the main storyline. I struggled through to page 100 decided I wasn't interested in the resolution of the mystery and gave up - not something I do often and I do feel guilty about it.

RELEASE NOTES:

Off to tuftynut. I hope you enjoy this book. I look forward to reading your journal entry.

Journal Entry 6 by Tuftynut from St Leonards On Sea, East Sussex United Kingdom on Saturday, July 29, 2006
Lordy me, yawn, yawn - I am in 100% agreement with candy-is-dandy but refusing to give up! There must be something to the storyline somewhere - I'm approaching page 200 but it's taking me ages to read. It just keeps sending me to sleep, I know it's hot but even so.........

I've been browsing the book shop in the rail station every night before catching the train home and there are so many interesting books to read out there so why am I so determined to finish this one!!

Journal Entry 7 by Tuftynut from St Leonards On Sea, East Sussex United Kingdom on Monday, July 31, 2006
Determined to finish it at the weekend and I'm there - I read through to the last page. Amazingly there was a twist to the mystery and it was resolved but for me this book was 70% to be skimmed over. As candy-is-dandy said intellectual snobbery and obscure philosophy that left you wondering what kind of a person would spend their lives deliberating over this stuff - there's a whole world out there!
