Writer Jay Mackintosh reached his artistic zenith with Jackapple Joe, a novel he wrote 10 years ago, based on the time he spent as a boy with a crusty, enigmatic old man named Joseph Cox in the tiny English town of Kirby Monckton. Joe's stories, simple wisdom and folk charms—and his uncanny ability to make anything grow—made their time together magical. But old Joe disappeared one fall without a trace. Now, with his life going nowhere, Jay impulsively purchases a small cottage in the remote village of Lansquenet and relocates to the sleepy French countryside in an attempt to recapture the magic that vanished 20 years ago—and maybe even find "Jackapple Joe" again.

I haven't been reading as often as I'd like because I'm trying to plan my wedding. But I'm enjoying this book very much and I'm about half way done. It'll be on it's way before too long.

8 out of 10

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. The characters were dynamic and the plot was a new twist on the coming-of-age story. The ending may have been a little too neat but otherwise I had fun with this one. Sending it on.

Book arrived today safe & sound. I have 2 rings in front of it and will be starting it within the next couple of weeks at the very latest.

04/10-As a boy, writer Jay Mackintosh spent three golden summers in the ramshackle home of "Jackapple Joe" Cox. A loney child,he found solace in Old Joe's simple wisdome and folk charms. The magic was lost, however, when Joe disappeared without warning one fall.

Great book! Real deep human emotions in this book that keep you coming back for more.

9 out of 10

What a wonderful book! It started somewhat less than interesting and then... grabbed me by the collar and didn't let go until I finished just a few minutes ago. Joanne Harris has a way of creating characters and places that are so full of life you'd think you were right there eavesdropping on conversations and following in footsteps. The ending had me laughing out loud in delight.

Contacting tempestsans now. Thank you shellheap for starting this bookray.
