Goes on the "To Be Read" stack

2/14 Released at the February MeetUp of the TriValley BookCrossing group.

The main character is awakened by a knocking at her door in the middle of the night. The man at the door represents the airline workers' union, and he is delivering the tragic news that her pilot husband's plane has crashed in the Irish Sea, and that there appear to be no survivors. Over subsequent days and weeks, she learns that her marriage was not as idyllic as she had believed, and that her husband had some surprising secrets.

Well, she starts off with strong emotions. Loosing your beloved one is probably something that most of us fear and it is easy to be caught in her grief. The question what happens to your emotions, when you find out that the person you thought to know deeply, is actually leading a secret life you never dreamt off, is a very interesting one. Sadly she does not follow this question thoroughly. She tries to find a logic end to the book and tries to convert it to a political thriller on the very last pages.
This book has not convinced me to look for more books from Anita Shreve.

It will travel on to Maenade soon.

I'm sorry that the book is still with me. If it's OK I'd still like to read it before passing it on!

29.01.07: Sorry again! Life took some changes for me and I simply didn't find the time for the book. I've read it by now - in a plane to be exact! When reading it I really liked it. By now I've come to the conclusion that the story is a little to farfetched for me. At least that's what I hope it is! Still - it was a good read. Thank you everyone for giving me the opportunity to read it. I will send it on to Catbook as soon as I have her confirmation.

I held the german edition in my hands several times, but couldn´t decide to buy it. For this reason I was very glad to get the chance to read the original. It will surely take me some time to do so, but I hope not too long ;-) Maybe in summer holidays...
Since my husband is a privat pilot this book is going to be released at an airport oder landing field after reading.
