It's been a while since I read any Dick Francis and thoroughly enjoyed these two stories.
In 'The Edge', Tor Kelsey acts under cover for the Jockey Club keeping an eye on undesirable elements in the racing world, but he faces his greatest challenge in trying to catch Julius Appolo Filmer. Everyone wants him behind bars, but witnesses tend to change their story or are found strangled every time he goes to court, so Tor decides to get him once and for all.
All aboard the Canadian Murder Mystery Race train, where rich owners and pricless racehorses travel across the continent, entertained by a murder mystery. But when things start mirroring real life, can Tor keep his cover, survive the trip and catch Filmer?
In 'Comeback', Peter Darwin returns to his childhood haunts and somehow manages to get caught up in mystery. Why are valuable racehorses dying on the veterinary table? Is the vet really that incompetent or is something else going on? Peter tries to find out, but soon people are dying, buildings are being burnt down and childhood memories are tuned on their head.
Both are excellent stories, although I liked 'Comeback' the best, just. Fast paced, realistic (most of the time) and great to while away a few evenings.
Hope you enjoy.

Well i see i did not journal this book when i received it from the last book standing book box perhaps a year ago. I was one of the last ppl with the book box.
I probably took it because it was fat and i didnt want to have to go to the next size up in shipping. Sure glad i did. I have never read a dick francis novel and i wasnt sure if i would like it. I care very little for horse racing. But so far i love the book. Its funny to have the storyline take a journey to canada in The Edge. I like the main character and the fact that he is secretly independently wealthy. He is just boarding the train under cover and i have yet to find out what shenanigans will ensue.
I found out my mom loves Dick Francis. That probably explains why i didnt have a good impression of them. I probably saw them lying around the house when i was young and assumed they were the usual garble.
