Denise Holden's life is a fragile mix of luck and hard work. A single mom of a speech-delayed son, Denise makes ends meet by moving to the small town of Edenton, North Carolina, and working the late shift as a waitress. When Denise crashes her car and her son Kyle flees the accident and disappears into the storm, her only stroke of luck is the quick arrival of Taylor McAden, a volunteer fireman. Taylor's got a knack for fixing people, and he can't help wanting to be involved with Denise beyond the initial rescue of Kyle.
As Taylor helps Denise recover from the accident and get to know the town, they discover a sweet bond and a magical chemistry that pulls them closer and closer. Though Taylor fits perfectly into Denise's family, he's unable to open his heart to being loved by her. As Taylor struggles to understand his conflicting desires, Denise questions the wisdom of gambling with Kyle's and her own emotions.

Author Nicholas Sparks has found a loyal audience for his stories about the internal battles that accompany the arrival of love. His heroes may be truck-driving manly men and his heroines emotional swamis, but it's easy to overlook the traditional roles when the complexities of human relationships are so beautifully described. Sparks has found his forte, and this novel is sure to be as popular as his earlier works.

This book is up for a new bookray those interested please PM me. It will be for Canada, International and USA. Please specify if you can only mail within the USA.

It is preferred that you keep the book only 2-3 weeks and send it on as quick as possible. You must PM the next person on the list to get their address as soon as you are finished with the book or when you are almost done with it, to keep the bookray moving smoothly.

Please be gentle with the book and wrap it properly for travel as mail service does not take very good care of parcels.

If you cannot for any reason read the book please PM me and I will send you the address of the next person who is to receive the book. Thanks for your participation. I know everyone who reads this book will truly enjoy it. Brendalc57

I've had this book for a week. I don't know how I missed journaling it! I have 2 rings in front of it but *should* have it read by the end of the month.

Volunteer fireman Taylor McAden is driven to take terrifying, heroic risks to save lives. But there's one leap into the unknown he can't bring himself to make. He can't fall in love. A man who likes to rescue troubled women, he inevitably leaves them as soon as they want more from him. Then, one day, a record-breaking storm hits his small southern town, and Taylor comes across a young single mother in a crashed car.

Another great book by Sparks!

After some problems with the PM system, momx3lovesbooks finally got my address! The book was waiting for me when I came back from a short weekendtrip. I have one "fat" bookring which arrived even earlier, but then "The Rescue" is next! Thanks everyone for sending it on!

I didn't cry as much as with other Sparks-novels (e.g. "Message in a bottle" or "The Notebook"), but it was a very enjoyable read. Thank you, Brendalc57, for letting me read it, I don't regret it! (And thanks everyone for sending it on).
I liked the idea that Taylor was finally "rescued" from his beliefs, nightmares and fears by Denise's (and Kyle's) love and as a consequence was able to "properly" love (and not only "rescue") a woman. I also was impressed by Denise's courage to give him another chance and to believe in his true love - despite the "betrayal" Taylor had inflicted on her and Kyle's life and despite her hurt feelings.

Sorry that it took me a bit longer to read it, but I had another bookring to finish first. As PinkManager wanted to be skipped, I'm sending this on to hshah next week.

Thanks all! Received this a few days ago, but was in a mess and couldnt JE it earlier.
As sson as i saw Nicholas Sparks, i couldnt resist reading it. After read A walk to Remember and The notebook, this was the third book i was to read by the author. I had high expectations and i am disappointed. Dont get me wrong, its a nice read but doesnt move you the way the other books moved me. I actually cried when reading The Notebook!
I didnt understand why Taylor couldnt confide in Denise?
