Journal Entry 4 by greenmtx from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA on Thursday, February 16, 2006
I enjoyed this sequel to 'The Bean Trees,' though I felt the ending was a little rushed. I want to know more about what happens! This was the first bookray/ring that I participated in through this site...I can't wait to see what others thought of this book!

Journal Entry 7 by dospescados on Sunday, March 26, 2006
I didn't realise this was a sequel to The Bean Trees, which I luckily had a copy that I picked up at a library sale, so I did an emergency reading of The Bean Trees over the past 24 hours and LOVED it so now I'm very excited to start Pigs in Heaven. My only complaint is why haven't I been reading Kingsolver all along?!?!?!

Journal Entry 8 by dospescados on Saturday, April 01, 2006
I just finished reading this a few hours ago. I started and finished The Bean Trees in under 24 hours I loved it so much. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much (I gave The Bean Trees 10 stars!) but it was one of the better books I've read in quite a while. The characters are so memorable and lively and Kingsolver is wonderful at dialogue. Thanks for introducing me to a new favorite writer! =) I'll get this into the mail to Poland next week.

Finished this over the weekend. I hadn't realised it was a sequel until I saw other people's journal entries. Didn't make any difference though I still thought it was a wonderful book. I was almost sad when it ended. Thank you for sharing. Shall PM BrooklinBrat for their address

Oh my goodness I can't believe I did it again! I was so excited about this book when it arrived, and got so into it that I forgot to make a journal entry!!! (It got here July 7th.) I love Barbara Kingsolver's writing and this book didn't disappoint, although I would have liked to get to know Turtle better. Will PM pashmack for an address to get this moving along.

Journal Entry 17 by pashmack from Lake Worth, Florida USA on Saturday, September 02, 2006
This is the first Barbara Kingsolver book I've read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main storyline was engaging, but I particularly liked Alice's adventures once she arrived in Heaven - such an awakening to life! Like some of the other readers, I hadn't realized that this was a sequel when I originally signed up for the bookray. Since then, I've joined another bookring for The Bean Trees, and am really looking forward to reading it. Where to next, ASKmama? Have you got anyone in mind, or shall I check the Wish Lists? Thanks so much for sharing this lovely book (which, by the way, is in amazingly good condition considering how far it has traveled!)

Journal Entry 20 by MazieNH from Hooksett, New Hampshire USA on Friday, October 06, 2006
I enjoyed this book very much, both as a stand alone book and as a follow up to The Bean Trees. I think the Cherokee culture angle was interesting and engaging. The plot was fun and I like Kingsolver's ability to flesh out minor characters. My only complaint was, as another journaller said, there wasn't a lot of character development, it was more a plot driven story. I'd have liked to get to know Turtle. I thought Annawake was a potentially interesting character but she remained more a cardboard plot device than I'd have liked. The ending tied up a little quickly for me also. But overall, these were minor spots in a book I enjoyed very much. I'll get this passed along quickly, thank you for sharing!
