A fascinating book about genes. Picking a gene from each chromosome, he talks about a topic using that gene as an example, including topics such as intelligence, instict, the genetic war between the sexes, cancer, memory, eugenics, replication, BSE and some politics. It's both corrected a basic misconception I had about genes and taken specific detailed examples, so I think it would appeal to interested people who know little or a lot about genetics.

Sending it out as a ring, PM me to join.

Just starting to read this, and as I opened the front cover I realised nut had registered it, so let's just say nut gave it to me a few months ago and I'm finally starting it, but I hope to pass it on to the next person in the ring shortly

Finally finished this a couple of months ago - very good - and only now pulling myself together so I can work out who in the ring to send it to next. Many apologies for sitting on this book for so long! I'm a bit of a procrastinator...

Arrived over the weekend. I have a couple of weighty books on Mount TBR in front of it but hopefully will get around to this one soon.

Many thanks.

I have tried to get into this book a few times now but just cannot. I usually enjoy science books but this one is waiting to be read at a bad time for me, lots of OU studying to do at the moment, so really need easier reads when I am relaxing. To not keep this book any longer and allow it to move on I will PM the next reader and send it on its' way.

Thanks for sharing and apologies.

M.

Got this last week but I've been away from my computer, so sorry for the delay. Looking forward to this one. It's next on my stack.

Oh for the geographically interested - my mailing address is indeed in Huntingdon County, PA but I actually live in Centre County, (Halfmoon Township), State College School District, in a not particularly populated spot, pretty much in the middle of nowhere. And yes we do DST, Eastern Time Zone. And Warriors Mark is actually pretty much one intersection with a blinking light, a gas (petrol if you prefer) station, a couple of churches and a post office. Not even a bar.

Sorry I took so long moving this one on. I finished it a bit back but can am only near a post office at work and hadn't been able to get out. On the whole I enjoyed this look at humans, explored through our genome although some chapters were more interesting than others. Some were a little dry but over all worth the read.

Mailed on to MaryZee in Taneytown, MD, USA, today.

Book arrived safely today. Thanks for sending it, Lyekkamarengo!

Finally finished this. I enjoy challenging myself by reading a variety of non-fiction from time to time. This could have been a very difficult read, given the subject matter. (Told a friend I was reading a book called GENOME, and she just looked at me, saying she'd never pick up a book like that...) But this proved to be a very readable book. I'm sure I learned a lot from this book; I'm just not sure what :)

Thanks for sharing this, Nut. This had been on my wishlist for a long while, so I was glad to have this opportunity to read it. I have Maurean's address, so this will shortly be on its way to her.

Mailed off to Maurean on 7/21.

Apologies to all for the delay in journalling this; it arrived safely, but dealing with a dying laptop then the effects of TS Fay caused me some computer issues as well...however, today the skies are clear, and I type this from a new(ish) PC, so "Genome" should be back on track just soon as I will try to acquire azuki's address today, and send this along sometime this week. (Again, my sincere apologies, especially to nut and to MaryZee, for my delay in journalling)

I'd glad to receive this. I love books about things. (And MaryZee, I miss your bookbox!) It's shouldn't be too long before I start on this.

I totally loved this book, though I admit from time to time there were parts that just, despite re-reading, simply went above my head. Overall quite educational and entertaining. A fascinating read indeed. Thanks for sharing. Now mailing this off to Draginta.
