again, 20% off at Target... I put Marilynne Robinson in my mind next to the other elderly Canadian women: Alice Munro, Margaret Atwood, etc.

Although I haven't read Housekeeping, if Ms. Robinson is as good a novelist as she is a book reviewer, I'll be extremely happy.

I loved this book and yet I found it painful-- I loved it for its untraditional narrative and storytelling, its bouncing around from then to now, its endless flow-- yet the car stalled somewhere close to halfway. A shame, too, because I really liked it.

I did, however, get it out on audiobook from the library-- this is one of those books that I think will just sound fantastic when read out loud.

Well, I made it about 1/2 way through the book before feeling as if I were listening to someone ramble on and on about disconnected pieces of their life and their unclear feelings about life, God, and religion. Then I set it down to pay attention to school and found that I couldn't get back into when I had the time again. I think that if I were in the right frame of mind, perhaps this book would touch and inspire me but I found the reading to be too difficult to join together. There was a lack of continuity in this story for me.

I'm sending it on to squirrel818 as part of an extremely delayed book relay (sorry for the long delay squirrel!) as I doubt I would enjoy finishing the book at this time. Thanks for sharing Amykinofallkins! I'm glad to hear that you had the opportunity to hear the book on audio and I hope it was better for you than reading the book as you indicate in your JE.
