The title says it all. I found it quite interesting when I read it a while ago, but now it's just gathering dust on my shelf.

This book has arrived safely in today's mail. For a number of years, my family has "adopted" wolves in my name each Christmas by donating to wolf sanctuaries. So I'm looking forward to learning more about wolf research.

I found this book very interesting - thanks for sharing it!

I especially enjoyed learning more about the Isle Royale wolves, as I went on a backpacking trip there in the mid-1970's which was somehow associated with the Michigan Technical Institute and they gave us some lectures on the island ecology including the wolves and moose. Sadly, I didn't see any wolves while I was there but it was great to get some updated information on them.

I also enjoyed learning a bit more about Aldo Leopold. His book A Sand County Almanac is one that my biology teacher father and I have shared an enjoyment of, but I've read very little else by him.

I've PMed Alvhyttan for her address, and will send it out to her shortly.

(updated to add:)
I was a bit disappointed not to find any mention of either of the wolf centers that I'm familiar with. In addition to breeding and releasing wolves into the wild, and educating people about wolves, I believe they do research. So I'll just say that anyone interested in some current information about wolves could check the websites of:

  • Wild Canid Survival and Research Center in Eureka, MO, USA
  • Wolf Conservation Center in New Salem, NY, USA

I sent this to Alvhyttan this morning. I used surface mail since there was a big cost difference, and there's no one signed up behind her. So it should be there in 4 to 6 weeks.

This book arrived to Älvhyttan, Sweden today! :)
Thanks samulli for sending this book out on a ray.
And thanks to hobbit who sent it to me, thanks also for a lovely card with wolf puppies. Nice to read about the wolf research programs that you sponsor, hobbit.

This book looks really interesting. Both I and my husband are interested in reading this book, so it might take some time before it is ready to travel again. If there are any more participants that wants to join this ray that will be fine, if I am the last one - I would be happy to release it at Grimsö, a wildlife research centre, not far from where I live.

    We really enjoyed this book!
It is a really interesting book, mainly because it is an overview of the whole world’s wolf research; it is also an overview of the history of this research. The book is based on interviews with people working with wolf research and we love to read that they are so dedicated their work.
Reading the chapter “Wolves of Scandinavia”, we can see that this book is a bit outdated, many things have happened since this book was published in 1994 an hopefully most of what have happened are positive for the wolfs.

On Thursday we will pass Grimsö, the centre of wolf research in Sweden, so I will release the book there.
