Journal Entry 2 by guinaveve from Mason, Ohio USA on Tuesday, January 24, 2006
I have loved all of the Tower series up to this point, but this one was BORING. I would have never started on a 7 book epic of this proportion had the first book been as boring as this one. It was all build-up, little story, and maybe length (over 700 pages) just for the length's sake. I did appreciate the feminist perspective near the end, shhhh! don't want to give away too much. This book seemed to be a detour from the real story, the quest for the tower, which is the focus of the previous books. It was as though King wanted to throw an extra book in the series once he saw what a following the books had. All said, it was a good tale that could have been told in at least half the pages. I hope it all gets back on track with Song of Susannah. I am eager to find out read that one!
