Think I was attracted to this by the title - as a scientist quite fond of romantic fiction!!! The writing isn't anything spectacular but the vision of what the world could be like in the future, in the (fairly topical) event of global warming, was definately food for thought.

An interesting premise for a book - I enjoy the odd 'dystopian future' based story now and again, not sure why.

Really wasn't sure if I would like this (it was the 'romance' rather than the 'scientific' which gave me pause) but I actually found it a pretty good read. The premise is that a man comes across the time machine on which HG Wells based his book. He decides for a variety of reasons (read the book!) to go forward 500 years and the world he finds is facinating, terrifying, thought provoking. It certainly made me think - parts of it were a little too believable for comfort.

Oh, and my favourite charachter was Graham!

Taking back to York Meetup.

This sounds MOST intriguing...!

It was the front-cover comparison to Russell Hoban's wonderful 'Riddley Walker' that particularly got my attention.

It's going on the TBR-shelf.

I'm afraid that, since I'm not getting any closer to reading this any time soon, I've decided to release it back into bookcrossing - at tomorrow evening's appropriately 'romantic'-themed BC Meetup in York, in fact...

This has actually been on my to-read list for a while, so I went by and picked it up. Hopefully I'll have time to read and release soonish.

Picked this up last week, as it was on my 'to read' list--read it all today, and thought it was great. Graham is my favourite character too! It's now on the going out shelf--I'll leave it somewhere this week.

On the mantelpiece in the down line waiting room.

In the train station of Durham - exactly in that moment I thought about, what I could read travelling to Edinburgh....magically I HAD to go to a mantelpiece - and there was waiting exactly the right book!!
Coming from London - where I have been the first time in my life to study in the British Library - it gave a surreal prolongation of my trip to the UK - I recommend it - its an intelligent look in a possible future!
I will let it free in my town now: in Berlin!
