Picking up where Thief of Lives [BKL Ja 1 & 15 04] left off, dhampir (i.e., half-human, half-vampire) Magiere and her half-elf friend, Leesil, have finally given in to their feelings for each other and started a relationship. But they don't have much time to revel in their newfound bliss. They've decided to undertake a journey to find out the truth about Magiere's parentage and to try to find Leesil's mother. Accompanied by elfin scholar Wynn and her dog, Chap, who is actually a fay in a dog's body, Magiere and Leesil set out, unaware that they are being tracked by Welsteil, Magiere's would-be mentor, who betrayed her, and Chane, a vampire who harbors a passion for Wynn. Upon arriving in the village where she was raised, Magiere encounters hostility from some of the locals, but she presses on to the castle where her mother was taken by a corrupt nobleman, his son, and an otherworldly creature who possesses the answers Magiere is seeking. Another satisfying entry in the Hendees' lively series.

Thanks, woosang. I just finished the 2nd book in the series so I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this one.

I don't think this one is as good as the first two books but it does provide an explanation of how Magiere came to be born & more info about Welstiel. The next book will delve further into Leesil's past. It's difficult to tell where Chap's loyalties lie, first he was Leesil's, then he answered to Magiere and now he seems to respond to Wynn exclusively, & I'm not certain why he's in trouble with the rest of the fey.

Thanks woosang. This is off to Kzel next. Posted 20/3/6.

Received safely today (25/03/06). I'm off to Thailand tonight, and don't want to risk losing it over there, so I'll read it as soon as I get back in ten days.

I enjoyed this, though I did find it more difficult to get into than the first two. Definitely a good read, but probably not quite up to the same standard as the others.

Journal Entry 11 by Rianonne from Wien Bezirk 22 - Donaustadt, Wien Austria on Saturday, June 24, 2006
The book arrived safe and sound in sunny Vienna!

As I have quite a number of BookRings ahead of this one, it may take some weeks till I can read it.

Journal Entry 12 by Rianonne from Wien Bezirk 22 - Donaustadt, Wien Austria on Saturday, August 26, 2006
Fantastic read! For me it is the second best book in the series so far - as I had troubles getting into "Thief of Lives".
I'm a fantasy reader and I can understand that paranormal romance readers have their problems with this setting because the relationship between Magiere and the half-elf Leesil is quite in the background of the story.
It was great to get so much of Magiere's background explained and Welstiel's role gets clearer but there is still enough in the dark ...
Can't wait to read the next book in the series "Traitor to the Blood", telling more about Leesil's past :p

Journal Entry 13 by Morgaine77 from Münchenstein, Baselland Switzerland on Monday, September 4, 2006
Arrived safely in Switzerland, toghether with "Thief of Lives".
However, I'm still waiting for "Dhampir", so this series will wait for a bit until I get to it. I like to read it in order... (not to speak of the other bookrings before these... LOL)

Thanks for sharing, woosang, and thanks for sending, Rianonne!

Journal Entry 14 by Morgaine77 from Münchenstein, Baselland Switzerland on Friday, April 20, 2007
Finished reading this last night and I must say I liked this book best so far.
I greatly enjoyed learning more about how Magiere came into this world and Welstiels involvement. I also liked that Chap took on a greater role and eventhough his motives and loyalties aren't quite clear yet, it was very interesting to see more about him and the fey. Again, the book ended with a cliffhanger and I'm very curious about the next one in the series. Will be very interesting to learn more about Leesil's past!

Will pass on to NeedSun as soon as I get to the post office next time.

Thank you so much for sending this book to me all the way from Switzerland and for the wonderful surprise...YUMMMMMM.....chocolate!!! I am really looking forward to reading this so I'll have to get moving with the bookrings I have with me right now, only two in front of this one.

Woosang, thank you for organizing the bookrings for this series.

Journal Entry 17 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, May 16, 2007
This book reminded me alot of the journeys taken in some of the fantasy epic series I used to be so hooked on. Unfortunately, I lost my taste for that type of fiction a couple of years ago. Magiere and her half-elf friend, Leesil are still very interesting to me but I had hoped for something different from this book.

Woosang, I sent you a PM letting you know that Maplesflowers has her own copy of this book so it needs to be returned to you. We all know how well the PM system is working these days so if you get this journal entry, please send your address to my e-mail account...Needingsun at yahoo dot com.

Thank you again for letting me participate in this ring.
