Quidditch Through the Ages

If your have ever asked yourself where the Golden Snitch came from, how the Bludgers came into existence or why the Wigtown Wanderers have pictures of meat cleavers on their robes, you need Quidditch Through the Ages. This limited edition is a copy of the colume in Hogwarts School Library where it is consulted by young Quidditch fans on an almost daily basis.

Proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Comic Relief, who will use your money to continue improving and saving lives - work that is even more important and astonishing than the three and a half second capture of the Golden Snitch by Roderick Plumpton in 1921.
Albus Dombledore

Received two days. Looking forward to reading it to my younger sister and brother, since we've enjoyed "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

Journal Entry 11 by pulcherrima from Tommerup Stationsby, Fyns Amt Denmark on Sunday, July 23, 2006
I've really enjoyed reading this book, and therefore decided to get a copy of both of Harry Potter's school books for my PC.
I think J.K. Rowling has managed to write an extremely detailed and informative book, but still she has such a vivid imagination so the book is also very funny.

This is going to Markuzz as soon as I get an address.

got it yesterday, thnx for sending!

Journal Entry 19 by Schneefee from Hagen, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Wednesday, October 11, 2006
Finished reading it this morning. I really liked the book. It was my first contact with the Harry-Potter-Universe in English but even if some names are different in German the book was easy to understand. I liked the drawings a lot :-) Reminded me on the really old school-books we sometimes used in primary school (which were the same my mum had had during her time in primary school).

I treated the book carefully since I really won't risk Mme Pince being angry with me... =:-o

Habs beim Meetup übergeben bekommen. Wer mich da wohl wieder angemeldet hat. Ja, ich hab einen Verdacht.

It is a nice little book with very important history facts about Quidditch. I am amused.
Now it goes next to natmol, before it travels to Leseschaf.

Journal Entry 23 by natmol on Wednesday, January 3, 2007
Well, as I halfway live at Volkher's place anyway, I suppose it's okay if I first read this tiny little book before passing it on to Leseschaf?! Doesn't look like reading it will take a lot of time, and I don't see the point in sending the book to Leseschaf and then back again.
Please, mobicat, send me a message if you don't think it's okay this way round.

Journal Entry 24 by natmol on Tuesday, January 9, 2007
Yes, it's amusing, in a way, but I was quite disappointed when reading this little book, all in all...
What I didn't like:

- I already didn't fiond Albus Dumbledore's foreword much convincing, telling the wizarding world the book was for Muggles and publishing this in the muggle version... already the whole idea of making it available for muggles doesn't much sound like something any serious wizard would really do... and then mentioning anti Muggle precaution in the book's version for Muggles.
- I guess this book made me grow allergic to alliterations! :-{
- I found some of the "developments" of the sport itself too far-fetched (especially the thing about the Golden Snidget), as well as the ethymology of some words.
- All in all I found the little book too superficial to be really enjoyable. I rather like some of the ideas, but somehow the way it all is put together doesn't feel convincing to me.

There were some things I did like, though:
- some of the details like the mentioning of Maori art which depicts wizards playing Quidditch and therefor has to be hidden;
- the bit about Asia not being much into Quidditch because of the strong tradition of using flying carpets;
- the aspect of charity (Comic Relief);
- Quodpot... I guess that sounds like a much more amusing sport to me than Quidditch (yes, I must admit the parts about Quidditch matches have never been among my faves in the novels).

I'm sending it on to Leseschaf.

Lag gerade im Briefkasten und wird ganz bald gelesen.

Journal Entry 26 by wingLeseschafwing from Bonn, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Friday, January 19, 2007
A little book and a fast reading. It's astonishing, that someone wrote a history of a sport not existing. But it's really nice. No great book, but with some funny parts in it, e.g. the Snidget. Thanks for sharing.

Today, 24.1.07, the book starts its journey home.
