Well, this book is a fast read. It's very english and it does seem a little bit to much... To go from top-lawyer to top-cooking might be ok, but from lawyer to cleaning toilets (loos)??? Anyway reading such books just makes my reading horizon larger...

It will now go to Nikel27. Happy reading!

22.3. I received the book today, thank you nikel27! And also chocolatemummy for organizing this ray!

25.4. I finished the book yesterday and I really enjoyed reading it. While it seemed to be light and humorous, I think the story did have a bit more thoughtful side too. I reckon Samantha's extra busy and stressed lawyer life is something that is reality to many people nowadays. And getting out of the rat race is becoming more common as well. I don't think the difference between the professions Samantha had was too far fetched, but on the other hand this book was probably not meant to be a story that might happen in reality. Who knows, it even might.

Received this in the mail today and read it after dinner - what a fun book! Sophie Kinsella is great at writing chick lit and this was no exception. After four Shopaholic books, I've grown a little weary of that particular character so it's nice to see a similar heroine whose problem isn't buying too much junk.

Samantha, a type A lawyer with no personal life, makes a tiny mistake at work that ends up costing the firm 50 million pounds. Whoops. You'd think that someone who charges 500 quid an hour would be on top of those kinds of things. Then again, with the kind of hours she keeps, it's not surprising that something slipped through the cracks. Samantha freaks out and leaves the office in the middle of the day, ending up in the English countryside. She stops to ask for directions and is mistaken for an applicant for a housekeeper position. Faced with a tiny salary, a couple who likes when she curtseys, and a list of household chores she has never tackled, she decompresses and learns she doesn't need the fast-paced, high stress lifestyle of a big city lawyer.

It might sound a little far fetched, but it does happen. There are not one but two cupcake bakeries in the area that were opened by lawyers who decided they wanted to do something they love instead of something that made them a lot of money.

This was a light, quick read that touched on some important questions about what is important in life and how we can become so miserable that we forget how to be happy.

Thanks to chocolatemummy for sharing this book!

Lookit what was waiting for me when I came home from work today! Yippee!
Presently I am reading Jan Karon's *A New Song* and Sarah McWaters' *Tipping the Velvet* (what a pair!), but I'll get to it in a jif. Looks like a quick read.

I thought this book was better than the Shopaholic series (although I've read only one or two in that series). It did have its faults. The characters were a bit standard, and I am proud to say that I knew right away the roles Arnold and Ketterman would play (I don't usually see those things so clearly, unfortunately). The raspberry scene was a bit of overkill, IMO. Also, who learns to cook really, really well after only two lessons?! Still, it was a lovely story about getting one's priorities straight. Thanks for including me in this ring.

Sending a note to Karenlea now. . .

Received a couple of days ago and am on Chapter Six today. Loving it!

Journal Entry 20 by Nolatari from McKinney, Texas USA on Thursday, July 27, 2006
Such a fun read! At first, I, too, had a problem with Samantha learning to cook gourmet menus in only two weeks, but it's ChickLit, so this aspect was to be expected. It didn't pull me out of the story, so that's a plus.

I have to say I was absolutely ENAMOURED with Nathaniel and kept seeing the image of Simon Baker in the movie "Something New" -- *so* not a bad thing! I'm not usually a fan of happy, wrapped-in-a-bow endings, but I actually rooted for this one to turn out the way it did. And after the halfway point of the book, I forced myself to stay awake until wee morning hours just to reach the conclusion. A triumph for Sophie Kinsella!

Rec'd from Nolatari today! It arrived safe and sound, high and dry even though it's the middle of one of our summer thunder storms!

I am currently reading two books, and this gets an automatic free ride right to the top of "Mount To-Be-Read," so it'll be next. I'm sure it will be on its way to the next participant by next week!

Added August 31, 2006: See? I told you it wouldn't be long! I started reading this book today!

September 2, 2006: Rec'd MazieNH's address today. If I have stamps in the house, the book will be on its way during the week. If not, it will have to wait for a trip to the post office on Saturday! Either way, it will be traveling soon!

I really enjoyed this book!

It was a little less frenetic than the Shopaholic series became, which to me was a good thing. While some of it certainly stretched believability a tad, it didn't ruin the book.

Quick, fun, light reading with humor sprinkled throughout, what's not to love?

Will PM the next in line, thank you for sharing!
(I suspect next in line's PM's don't always work based on her profile, will email her directly tonight 9/24 to get an address to send along this bookring)

Caught today! I've read othe books by Kinsella and have enjoyed them, I am sure this will be the same.

Samantha is a high-powered lawyer in London. She works all hours, has no home life, and cares only about getting a partnership. She thrives on the pressure and adrenalin. Until one day..she makes a mistake. A mistake so huge, it'll wreck her career.

She walks right out of the office, gets on the first train she sees, and finds herslf in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she is mistaken for the interviewee housekeeper and finds herself being offered the job. They have no idea they've hired a Cambridge-educated lawyer with an IQ of 158-Samanantha has no idea how to work the oven.

I enjoyed Kinsella's books and this was right up there with the other books by her I've read.

I have the next readers address and the book will be mailed probably next week (week of 11/05)
