Quite an enjoyable read, though the end seems a bit rushed.

I haven't got time! I wail as I pick up yet another desirable read. But I've wanted to get hold of this for a while, so I'll do my best.
This was a fascinationg if horrifying book. An apparently autobiographical account of the life of a geisha throughout the early part of the last century, and through the second world war. Amazing that the (male) author managed to get inside the skin of his femae protagonist. My daughter just went to Japan for a holicay and loved it. I'm not sure, having read this, that I would. So I'm passing the book to her as a different view of an extraordinary society. Of course it was fifty yers ago . . .
