This was my first experience with Pratchett. I can't actually tell if I really like his disc world books. I enjoyed it in many parts, then again it got boring and I layed the book aside for some time. I think it took me about half a year to read it. Still, I really like Susan! I think I'll try another Pratchett sometime, then I'll decide whether I like it or not.

There were hilarious allusions to songs as "Horse with no name" (Death trying to forget in the desert) and "Stairway to heaven" (Pathway to paradise), films as the Blues Brothers ("we're on a mission from Glod"), literature like Poes Raven (the talking raven sitting on an ornamental doorframe), bands as Def Leppard (instead of leopard trousers they bought a leopard with hearing difficulties) and the Grateful Dead ("the grateful Death"), or Glod "redecorating" hotel rooms (new wallpainting and curtains) as many other Rockmusic-Bands have done it - well: in quite another way (c:

Soul Music ist grade bei mir angekommen! Vielen Dank für´s Schicken! Ich hoffe, ich komme schnell zum Lesen. Aber sobald ich mein derzeitiges Buch durch habe, kommt der gute Pratchett an die Reihe.
This is now one of my favourite Pratchetts! I totally fell in love with The Band with Rock In and the story about Death and his granddaughter Susan was somehow so very lovely ;) I´m pretty sure that I will read this book again someday!

Wow, music with rocks in it! I´ve bought the german version of this book ages ago and now I´m reading it for the first time in English! I prefer to read Pratchetts now in English.... :-)
Wow, this was great. I enjoyed the story even more reading it in English. I think, it´s much better and some jokes even work much better in English (like the famous Band-names).

Das Buch ist schon ein paar Tage bei mir und schon halb gelesen.
Bis jetzt finde ich es ganz gut, wobei mir die Stellen mit Susanne, Tod und den Zauberern am besten Gefallen. Durch die meisten Musikseiten husche ich eher :-)

Die Seelenmusik ist heute heil in meinem Briefkasten angekommen! Muss möglicherweise noch ein bißchen warten, da ich es nicht unbedingt mit in den Urlaub nehmen möchte.
18.04.2009: The holiday is over and the book's finished. I enjoyed that one really much. I think it's better to read Pratchett in English, too. This book proves it again.

Ein weiterer Versuch, mit Terry Pratchett warm zu werden, für den ein Freund sehr schwärmt. Leider ist auch dieser Versuch gescheitert. Einzelne Passagen sind gut/witzig, aber insgesamt reicht es für mich nicht, bei der Stange zu bleiben.

I finished the book and my boyfriend is now reading it.
I loved it! I did know the animated movie and was surprised at how accurately it shows the book. A really funny and interesting book with a lot about the history of music :)

Es sieht ja schon etwas gelesen aus...
Ich habe schon mal reingelinst. Es ist mein erster Pratchett auf Englisch, es wurde ja von vielen empfohlen, Pratchett im Original zu lesen. Nun, es scheint schon eine kleine Herausforderung zu sein, es kommt fast auf jedes Wort an, um den Witz mitzukriegen (oder auch nur die Handlung), aber es macht nochmal einen ganz anderen Eindruck als auf Deutsch.
Ich weiß nicht, wie die Lesereihenfolge schließlich sein wird, aber zur Zeit lagern hier einige Ringe, die eigentlich erst dran sind. Kann aber gut sein, dass Soul music vorgezogen wird. Zur Zeit lese ich übrigens "Die Bücherdiebin" mit dem Tod als Ich-Erzähler. Hat was Pratchetteskes...

Ich glaube, ich bleibe bei Pratchett auf Deutsch. Sicher sind manche Wortspiele nicht übersetzbar, aber ich habe hier auch vieles nicht richtig mitbekommen. Ich habe schon an meinen Englischkenntnissen gezweifelt, hab danach aber "The Lacuna" von Barbara Kingsolver nachgeschoben, da hat es mit dem Sprachverständnis wieder gut geklappt. Es kommt eben auf's Buch oder auf den Autor und seinen Sprachgebrauch an.
Daher war es jetzt nicht so das reine Vergnügen, aber ich hab mich durchgekämpft.

Got it yesterday and started immediately. It is a bit more difficult to understand than German-of course-but a great read up to now.
edit Aug, 18th, 2010: Read and enjoyed it a lot, though I did not know enough about the music biz to understand fully what it was all about (the little jokes, you know). But still, it was soooo worth reading. Sometimes I did just feel there was a deeper meaning to it, but could not figure it out exactely due to lack of English, but - I felt there WAS something there. It is a good start into deeper understanding of a language, isn t it? *laugh*

Eine schöne, skurrile Geschichte, die Spaß gemacht hat. Nur die Episode mit der Fremdenlegion fand ich arg überzogen.
Das Buch ist mit der Rennschnecke unterwegs zur nächsten Station.

got it yesterday, but I need to finish another book first, so it could take a while to finish this, hope you won't mind since I'm the last participant anyway.
as expected, it took me a while.
And, as expected, I loved it.
I knew the book in German and I also knew the German audiobook, and I was pretty sure that the Original would be a lot better, but I think the German translation lacks a LOT more of the fun as I had thought (feared actually)
