But, however, there was many nice moments in this book that I really enjoyed reading, below I put some of them. Somehow when reading this book I also started to hope that besides being funny it would show also something for not only to Americans, but also other "westeners", and make us think more about our cultures. Do we really want to sell and advertise everything with by using sexuality? Or do we really meet our families mostly just during the Christmas breaks? But I really loved the ways Gopal wrote his letters to his brother, here's a piece of one: "Beloved younger brother, Greetings to respectful parents. I am hoping all is well with health and wealth. I am fine at my end. Hoping your end is fine too. With God's grace and parents' blessings I am arriving safely in America and finding good apartment near University. Kindly assure mother that I am strictly consuming vegetarian food only in restaurants though I am not knowing if cooks are Brahmins. I hope parents' prayers are residing with me. " And there was so many nice descrpitions about how opening a tin can descripes so well and deeply America, what are the meanings of chewing a bubble gum in different manners, etc, etc... And then this lovely moment with snow: "Snow, Gopal thought with a schock. Goodness me, they are having snow. He had never seen snow before expect in photographs where it lay like a skin of some dead white beast on the ground. He had not realised it danced with such joy through the air, with the beauty of a ballet dancer..." Thank you once more gussy916, I'll try to let this little book continue its journey safely with some other caring bookcrosser! |
