Still haven't read it.. but is eager to.. My german teacher recommended it (alas, I do not think my german is good enough.. yet!)

"Witty, stylish and ferociously absorbing... menace conveyed with all the power of the writer's elegant unease" Observer

"Born in sweaty, fetid eighteenth-century Paris, Grenouille is distinctive even in infancy. He has "the finest nose in Paris an no personal odur". With wit, a Gothic imagination and considerable originality, Süskind has developed this simple idea into a fantastic tale of a murder and twisted eroticism controlled by a disgusted loathing of humanity... Clever, stylish, absorbing and well worth reading". Literary Review,

"A meditation on the nature of death, desire and decay... a remarkable début". Peter Ackroyd, The New York Times Book Review

"Unlike anything else one has read. A phenomenon... Everyone seems to want to get a whiff of this strange perfume, which will remain unique in contemporary literature." Figaro

"An ingenious and totally absorbing fantasy". Daily Telegraph

About the author:
Patrick Süskind was born in 1949. He studies history in Munich and was a writer for television before he wrote Perfume (1985). His second novel, The Pigeon, later adapted as a play, was first stages at the BAC Theatre in London in May 1993. His play Double-Bass was first staged in Munich 1981 and has since become one of the most performed plays in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It has also been performed at the Edinburgh Festival and at the Royal National Theatre in London. His novella The Story of Mr. Sommer (1992) has, like Perfume, been a huge success all over the world, and his Three Stories and a Reflection was published in 1996. Patrick Süskind lives in Munich.

10 out of 10
