Ever since he could remember, young Jeff wanted to fly in an airplane more than anything in the world. His mother had told him that if he saved his pennies, they would take a trip together. And here they were, on the first of a series of connecting flights that would take them from Newark all the way to Los Angeles. Best of all, Jeff had planned the entire trip by himself. Jeff's mom was a Grade-B movie actress with a talent for attracting men. In her company everything became an opportunity for adventure, from that strange airline food ... to that suspiciously nervous passenger ... to that beautiful stewardess who stole Jeff's heart. This was a nice little story about a boy who falls hard for flight. Travolta wrote it as a Christmas gift and it has grown into a published book and audio from there. I've put it back into the box to continue its flight.

Enjoyed this book very much. My husband is learning to fly so I imagine that he was this boy as a child.

This was in lightwavz' audio bookbox (see photo), with a bright green sticky-note recommending that I listen to it, so I did - it's just an hour, so it lasted an errand or two in the car {grin}. Rather sweet, though I was expecting something a little more St. Exupery and this wasn't like that at all. [It's rather a shame that commercial aviation has turned the magic of flight into something more like a crowded bus trip - but even on the most uncomfortable flights I still get a thrill when the plane leaves the ground...]

Will be leaving this in the box for the next participant; should be on its way to editorgrrl in Connecticut tomorrow!
