Very clever, entertaining short stories set in Edinburgh, Scotland with Detective John Rebus as sleuth. The stories are quick and light, with originality and humor.

I am Scottish, and I love mysteries, so I think this is a good match for me. Thanks, J!

Very entertaining so far. I had forgotten that Scottish people use the word "clipe" to mean "tattletale."

I see from the stamp on the top of the book that this copy once belonged to the Houston Public Library. I wonder how it got here to Illinois.

A satisfying read. The detective, John Rebus, is quite hard boiled. I liked the imagery in this book--for example, a surly businessman "chewed on his cigar like it was a debtor's finger."

RELEASE NOTES:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Inspector Rebus is wryly humorous.

I put it on the seat next to me, and when I noticed that the young man in the next seat was reading Elmore Leonard, I called A Good Hanging to his attention on the chance he might enjoy Rankin too (maybe even more so). He seemed interested and took it with him when he left the train.

Released for Tartan Day Challenge

A lady on the Brown line train had finished it and offered me the book...only 3 weeks later did i realize that it's involved in this project! Great short stories centered around Inspector Rebus!
