Got this as a Christmas present, but I already had it, so I offered it up on a swap on the relay, and so away it goes.

This arrived today - I am almost done with The Fiery Cross so I will probably take a small break between the two. It's just as huge - 978 pages. Oy.

Oh, where to start................

I read The Fiery Cross right before I read this and as I was reading it, I felt like I had to read it, to get it done because I knew this book was on it's way to me. I read A Breath of Snow and Ashes because I HAD too. I was gripped, captivated, engrossed, bewitched. Once I started, there was no way I could stop. I don't even have th e words to describe how I feel about this story! I laughed, pointed, shouted, gestured, hit, gasped, covered my eyes and I cried. And cried some more. I can't believe how much happened. 980 pages of one of the best books I've read in a very very long time.

There are many parts I wish I could mention, without giving much away. Claire was very prominent in the story, all the things that happen to her. Roger finds himself. When Roger and Jamie find the burned children.............when the other time-traver finds Claire............Henri-Christian..........Amanda, poor baby...........Malva..........Lizzie and her twins...........Jemmy and the telephone........Brianna and Roger at Lallybroch, I thought that was very cool......I could go on and on. Though I imagine a few people are laughing at my long journal entry already.

I hope the next reader feels as passionately as I do. I swear, Jamie Fraser is the be all, end all. Now to wait for the next book.

Uh-oh! Temptation has arrived in the form of a thousand pages which really should not be read until I catch up with my TBRs! Oh, this is going to be tough.... I can hold out.... I am strong....

What am I talking about? I'm a total weenie! It'll be a wonder if I hold out 48 hours! Ack! My desire for instant gratification is my nemesis!

Thank you so much for offering this is the swap, Bounti! I was sooo excited to snatch it up!

And I'm glad you liked it Three!

Now, which one of you bad girls stuck the Read Me Now post-it on the front, hmmm? ;P

10 out of 10

Well I've done the deed! Actually I finished this baby about a week ago, but there's just sooo much to it that I had no idea where to start a journal entry! That, and I'm not sure if BP's read it yet, so I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I thought I'd better distance myself from the urge to babble. It's still there, but I'll try to restrain myself!

This was definitely my favorite of what Gabaldon calls the New World Trilogy! So much has happened, and it seems like there must be so much more to go! I can see how three's entry looks the way it does -- I think mine's going to be similar! :P

Oh my gosh, the newspaper "prophecy"! And yes, Roger was so much more of a character to me in this book. In the previous two, it sort of felt like he had to be wedged into the story from the outside. This was the first time he really fit into the 1700's. I was glad we were seeing more of Ian in this book, although I would have liked a little more Lord John. And isn't Bree clever? I loved the Beardsleys in this! They were great! But oh my, Claire had a time of it, didn't she? (Of course, she usually does!) Jamie never changes, does he? And that time-traveler. (By the way, did you hear that Gabladon's probably doing a little off-shoot series about Master Raymond?) And yes, Malva -- wow! And the Christie family! And Fergus and family! And the Bugs! And the River Run crew! About half the time I had a feeling things that happened were going to happen, which was fun, but naturally the other half the time I was completely taken out of the blue!

980 pages, and I never got bored! I tell you though, be careful about reading this book in bed when you're sleepy. If you nod off and it falls over onto your chest it could knock the wind right out of you. What a rude way to wake up!

I have passed the, uh, wee tome on to my mother, along with warnings not to let it fall on her in her sleep. This one should hold her for a while.... :D Thanks so much for sharing this!!

Hope your bookselves are reiforced, Karen! :P

What a fantastic surprise and definitely worth the wait. Thank you so much for sending this book.

It will have to wait a little before I can read it (I'll leave the Read Me Now note on it though, to remind me to keep it near the top of my stack) because I have a couple of the other books in the series to catch up with first. Eek! Actually, receiving this one has made me decide to read one of the preceeding books as my next read so I can catch up with the series and read this one!

So a very big thank you, Kyri!

So it took me a longer time than I thought to catch up with the series so I can get to this book. And now I'm wondering why I waited so long! And speaking of waiting, I was going to wait a while before reading this book since it took me so long to get through the previous book (over a month), but I just couldn't stop myself. And I feel like I just flew through this book and it took me no time at all to read (barely two weeks). I just couldn't keep myself from picking it up and reading more. Very compelling and with a bittersweet ending. Thank goodness the next book is available so I can jump right into it!
