Living Dead in Dallas (Southern Vampire Mysteries)
25 journalers for this copy...
From the back cover:
Cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse is on a streak of bad luck. First, her coworker is murdered and no one seems to care. Then she's face-to-face with a beastly creature that gives her a painful and poisonous lashing. Enter the vampires, who graciously suck the poison from her veins (like they didn't enjoy it).
Point is, they saved her life. So when one of the bloodsuckers asks for a favour, she complies. And soon, Sookie's in Dallas using her telepathic skills to search for a missing vampire. She's supposed to interview certain humans involved. There's just one condition: The vampires must promise to behave - and let the humans go unharmed. Easier said than done. All it takes is one delicious blonde and one small mistake for things to turn deadly... I liked it. Funny. I did not like it as much as the first book though. The storyline of the murdered coworker feels a bit detached from the main storyline. Like an afterthought. "Mhm, how are we gonna get this book going and make it over 200 pages?". And the beastly creature was a bit over the top. How many supernatural being can one woman take? Still, went straight on to book no. 3 and might follow that up with book no. 4.
Book #38 in 2005 and Book #1 in 2006. Published in 2002, 262 pages - 201 of those I read last year, 61 pages this year. Total for 2005: 14,531 pages. 469 pages short of my goal. Less telly and more reading this year!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
That was fast! Sookie landed safely in Vienna :-)
This was a fast and funny read! I really like Sookie's humor :-) For me, having read Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter Series, the introduction of another supernatural being was exciting and I am looking forward to read more!
Please imagine this picture:
Morgaine jumping around excitedly and squealing with delight, therefore totally embarassing her cats who hide under the sofa...
And why is that?
Sookie is here!!!! Hooray!!! I was on serious Sookie-withdrawal after I read book one! Thank you so much cathepsut for sharing and Rianonne for sending!
Skipping off happily to start reading... (I'm gonna be so tired tomorrow at work, because I'll most likely read all night long... LOL)
I admit it. I'm nuts. I read this book in record time. I'm not sure if I'm going to be as fast with the other one. ;-)
It was a very funny read and what had me giggling especially was the picture I had in my head of Eric in pink and aqua Lycra... I mean, a gorgeous, tall, broadshouldered, centuries old viking-vampire in Lycra?!? That was a good one! Talking about Eric, I'm curious how long it takes until Sookie lets him into her pants... and Sam... :-)
I agree, the murder story was a little detached from the main plot and I wasn't quite sure why Ms. Harris had to include the maenad in the story?! Having read Anita Blake to an extend I didn't think the beastie was too bad, though. There were worse. Actually I think the humans from the Fellowship of the Sun were far worse than the maenad. Seriously.
Off to start reading the next book! :-)

RELEASE NOTES:
On the way to Sternschnuppe28. Enjoy!
Thanks for sending! To be read soon.
a very nice mixture of romance, crime and vampire story. I especially like that it is told from Sookie´s point of view. If Harris needed to introduce new creatures like shapeshifters and figures from the Greek mythology, is questionable. Anyways, Sookie´s adventures remain a page-turner.
Sent off to kbgoffe today.
What a wonderful surprise! I had forgotten that this book was coming. Right now, I have 3 ray/rings in front of it but I will get to this as quickly as I can.
I know that I shouldn’t have gotten into another series but I can’t wait to read this book. Thanks!
Yikes I have found yet another series that I will have to read. ;) Sookie is such a likable character. You can’t wait to see what is going to happen to her next and how she will react. I couldn’t imagine having her gift or burden in many ways. She and Bill seem to be really well suited for each other. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series.
BTW I read that the Southern Vampire book series has been picked up by HBO as a new show. The creator of “Six Feet Under” will bring it to life.
Mailed out 04/25/06
Received in the mail on 4/27. I will read this and pass it on to the next person in the ring as soon as possible.
This a great little series! I enjoyed this one even more than the first. I received CLUB DEAD a few days after I received this one, and, since I will be sending them to the next Bookcrosser who is in Singapore, I am going to read CLUB DEAD first and send them together. I am starting it now and will read it as quickly as possible.
Oops - I said in my last journal entry that I would send this one and Club Dead together to the next person on the list, but the list is different for Club Dead, so I'm ready to send this one as soon as I get the address. Will PM today.
Sent off to Amberkatze today. Happy reading!
YES!!!!! I am sooooo happy!! I can finally read the next part!!! Wooohooo!!! and today must be Charlaine Harris day because another book of her's 'Shakespeare's Landlord' came in the post today as well!
Anyway...big thanks to nancyluvsbooks for sending this on to me! I really appreciate it. Also Thanks to Cathepsut for letting me join the ray...Ohh and I am the last on the list...so I guess I have to find the book a new home when I am finished with it (which will be tomorrow hehe).
I really love this series and can't wait for the next book to arrive! I spent all day grabbing every spare moment I could with the book and managed to finish it just now.
It was a great story with a bit of everything. Sometimes I found the writing a little too quick though and had to go back and read the sentence again...but it could have been me just reading to fast in excitement :)
I am last on this ray so I guess it is up to me to find a home for this book? Will leave it on my reserved list until I find a good one :)
Thanks to everyone!!
WOW! Thank you! Strictly speaking it's not my birthday til tomorrow, but I'm going travelling to see my family today and I thought I would open it before rather than after. :) I'm not coming back for nearly a week, you see.
Reading the comments, I'm more and more looking forward to this series! I feel really special to have received this book after so many people have journalled it.
Thank you AmberKatze!
30th September 2006 Just finished this one this morning, I really really enjoyed it. :)
I agree with Morgaine77, Eric in pink and aqua Lycra is hilarious and the maenad was nowhere near as horrible as those nasty Fellowshippers.
However, I have to say that I disagree with the idea that the supernatural beings such as the shapeshifters and the maenad were unnecessary - I enjoyed a new interest in the world of Sookie, and I liked the way the maenad drew the beginning and the end of the story together to make it full circle. When you compare Sookie during her first maenad encounter and Sookie during the second, it really makes you go "oooo my, how she's changed". I think that makes sense, and it strengthened the story for me. :)
Overall, a great book! I might have a go at a ring, if not I'll send it on its way and I'll keep you all updated. :) Thank you to everyone who kept this book travelling, how lovely to be a part of its journey!

Ha really loved this book, what a hoot, have not read the first book, but i'm definately on the lookout for more of this wonderful writer
Sent to Agnesnit as part of a bookray
Received in the post yesterday - looking to start as soon as I can!
Thanks for kicking this one off Cathepsut and thanks for sending on Necroscope :)
Ooops! Forgot to journal! Read and enjoyed this one, though its been a while since I read the first in the series (Club Dead was it?), the characters stayed alive (so to speak!) for me.
Some nice and very twisted happenings in Dallas but Sookie seems to be able to cope very well in what happens to her now she's involved with Bill - her vampire partner.
Emailed Meryl twice, no reply so posted onto abrokenstarr about 2-3 weeks ago.
Thanks cathepsut!
Sorry, have had this for a while. Currently reading will send on ASAP
A pretty good story. Will send on when I have an address.
The book was waiting for me when I returned home from the holidays. Thanks! I'll begin reading right away.
This second southern vampire mystery was a very enjoyable book to read, although I think the first book was even better. This one began a bit slow, but when it got going, it was just brilliant. I agree with some of the other readers that the Fellowship was scary, much more so than the maenad, and Eric in lycra was hilarious!
I like Sookie and Bill as characters and all the ups and downs of their relationship. It feels very real. I also like the fact that the author doesn't even try to explain why Sookie is telepathic and why some people are shapeshifters. They just are.
Harris' mixture of vampires, mystery, romance and humour works very well with me and I really want to read the whole southern vampire series!
The book goes to toyjoy in Singapore next. I already got the address and I'll post the book tomorrow.

A funny read! The best vamp I like is Eric sounds like a yummy, good-humour guy, always teasing Sookie!
Tell me how many men would actually wear the lycra without feeling dying in it?

Just as good as the first book but with less to 'get your head round' as the characters are forming very well. More beatings for Sookie but she survives intact to ride another day! Reading the next in the series as they are excellent tales which keep me entertained into the small hours.
I have an address for Sardonyx and the books are travelling today Friday 3rd September.

University took me away from reading for a few months so I'm very sorry for the delay. After reading the first book in the series I greatly enjoyed reading this one. Partly I like reading to see the differences from the tv program of which I'm a big fan. I'm going to attempt to read the following books in the series now.
This book is being offered as a ring with the first book.

29/3/11 - Decided not to read the second one. Although I enjoyed the first one, I don't think I want to read the whole series. Thanks again, teggers.

First of all, I'm sorry I kept this book for so long, life got in the way and took a serious toll on my reading time :)
It is a very good book; I read the first one awhile ago, but from what I can recall I think I like this one better. It's well paced, easy to read and very entertaining. I like that the author includes some supernatural creatures besides vampires, that's always a breath of fresh air, specially when there are tons of vampire stories and books around :)
I contacted LaPitchoune twice but didn't get any answer, so I moved forward and PMed Izzy5000. I already have her address and will be mailing this out tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing!
Update: I just got a PM from LaPitchoune with her address, so the book will be on her way instead.
