My dad used to read a lot of Tom Sharpe; and being a good, PC-minded, arsey A-level student, I never used to read them due to the un-Pc caricatures on the covers. PLus I thought this one was about the army. A reactionary, so-called humorous novel about the military. Er, no thanks.

Well, it was my loss, because I was entirely wrong. This is about the apartheid police force in South Africa and far from being reactionary, does what satirical fiction does best, which is make pompous and unpleasant people in authority look like FOOLS who DESERVE their COME-UPPANCE! In capitals, no less. And they get it! Oo-er...
