I can't say for sure why I liked this book, but I was not able to put it down. I do not read traditional mystery novels, but Atkinson's characters were such likably flawed and damaged individuals that I just had to know what would happen to them and how their stories were intertwined. Jackson's ex-wife is an idiot to have left him and treat him so shabbily.
