Slaughterhouse-five

Bought tonight for bookclub. I better get reading!
Oh, and while I was at the bookstore, this happened. :)

oh dear! I finished this quite a while ago -- bookclub zipped through it pretty quickly -- and then I never came back and wrote my review!
I don't know quite where to start . . .oh, maybe the "endorsements" on the inside cover:
Our finest black-humorist. . .
An unimitative and inimitable social satirist.
A cause for celebration.
hmmmmm. . .I thought this was one of the weirdest and mostly depressing books I ever read. Guess I either really missed the boat, or am dumber than I thought :)
I think (at least this is what I asked at book club) that maybe the frenetic pace of this book, jumping from scene-to-scene and time-to-time is all representative of just how crazy war can make you. If it's not that, then I really don't get it!

I'll be releasing this book tonight as a Cody's Release.
Cody's daughter, fsr44, wrote several years ago:
I credit my love of reading to my Dad. He had to leave school during the Depression to go to work to help support his family. But his lifelong learning never ended...he was the most voracious reader and the smartest man I ever knew. He was a WWII veteran and fought from N. Africa through Italy and France before being captured by the Germans. He and my Mom were married 55 years and raised 5 children.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Left this with the "Butcher's Select" deli ham (in the deli meat section across from the bread -- see picture) because of the obvious tie-in with the title, and for, well. . .sentimental reasons.
If you are new to BookCrossing and find this book and this site; welcome! Enjoy the site, the book and hopefully the BookCrossing community. I hope you'll join BookCrossing (doesn't cost anything to join!) and if you do, please consider using any previous reader of this book, or me, Antof9, as the member who referred you. If you are an old hand at BookCrossing, thanks for picking up the book! Either way, I hope you'll journal so all the previous and future readers can track this book's journey. Thanks, and Happy Crossing!
Edited to add: look carefully -- you can see the "FR" from the "FREE BOOK" sign on the BC baggie

I went in search of this book at the urging of Antof9. She had promised to loan it to me, but apparently wanted to make me work for it first. :)
I ran over to Safeway on my lunch break (it's about 3 minutes from my office). It took me awhile to find it, so well was it hidden. I was about ready to give up, when it caught my eye.
This is one of those classics that I somehow missed out on in both high school and college, I'm excited to read it.
I'll journal on it before I release it back into the wild.

Once again I pick up a "classic", slog my way through it, and come to the end wondering who decided we should all read it. I hope the next person who finds this is happier to read it than I was. Maybe you'll be able to explain what I missed.
Released into the wild of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
