Mary Boleyn catches the eye of Henry VIII when she comes to court as a girl of fourteen.

Dazzled by the golden prince, Mary's joy is cut short when she discovers that she is a pawn in the dynastic plots of her family. When the capricious king's interest wanes, mary is ordered to pass on her knowledge of how to please him to her friend and rival: her sister, Anne.

Anne soon becomes irresistible to Henry, and Mary can do nothing but watch her sister's rise. Anne stops at nothing to achieve her own ambition. From now on, Mary will be no more than the other Boleyn girl. But beyond the court is a man who dares to challenge thw power of her family to offer Mary a life of freedom and passion. If only she has the courage to break away - before the Boleyn enemies turn on the Boleyn girls...

29.3. I received the book today, thank you bluefenix211! And thank you MonkeCatcher for organizing this ring!

27.4. I finished the book yesterday. This was the first book I've read by Philippa Gregory, but I've heard many saying that her books are really good. After the first shock of small children having fixed marriages, having sex and getting pregnant in Tudor England, I was absorbed in the story. I love historical fiction books anyhow, so it was expected. I imagine the book described very well how it was like to live in court in Tudor England - spying, scheming, plotting, competeting of the favour of the king... Siblings being the only one to trust, but yet rivals to each other. I enjoyed reading the book even though most of the time it wasn't pleasent or nice to read.

23.5. I managed to mail this only this morning, sorry about that. My home still looks like a warzone after the move...

It has arrived at last! On my birthday of all days! This book sure took its time to get here. Hetku77 and I were getting quite worried, so it was a great relief to find it in my mailbox today. Can't wait to start reading, but first I have to finish my current read.

Journal Entry 10 by Suzy26 from Delft, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Sunday, July 2, 2006
I liked this book tremendously. What a story! So well written that it made me feel like I was at King Henry VIII's court myself. Of course I knew beforehand that Henry would marry Anne eventually and that Anne would end up at the scaffold, but even so this story kept me on the edge of my seat all through its 529 pages. I was surprised to learn that Anne was such a conniving piece of work. I always had her down for an elegant, graceful lady. It is also amazing to realize how little a woman's life was worth back in the 16th century. Even to your own family you were nothing but a piece on the chessboard, not supposed to have any feelings at all.

I have pm'd chocolatemummy for her address.

Journal Entry 17 by mskdm20 from Van Alstyne, Texas USA on Thursday, January 18, 2007
I am terribly sorry for keeping this book for so long.
I did finish it a while back, but never journaled it. I got so caught up in work, that I haven't really done much of anything.

Well, I really did enjoy the book. It pretty much tells the story of Anne Boleyn's sister, Mary. Mary was once King Henry's favorite, then he set his eyes on Anne. This is her story, and how she must help her sister seduce the man she once loved.

Reserved for the next person on the list.
Mailing tomorrow

Journal Entry 18 by mskdm20 from Van Alstyne, Texas USA on Monday, January 29, 2007
