My first reading challenge! / Meine erste Lese-Challenge!

I will use this journal entry to collect the list of books I have read (or consider to read - changes still may appear during the year) as part of this challenge ordered by continent. You find all the books in my personal challenge book Aldawens Lesechallenge 2006: 5 Bücher aus 5 Ländern auf 5 Kontinenten as well. The links below will take you to the associated journal entry there. For BC-registered books you also find the link to the book's main journal there. So at least everybody interested in the books may read my opinion on any of it.
Similar to Sheepseeker I will split the Americas by forming a group of North America and the Carribean and a second group containing Central and South America. Additionally, by looking through my pile of unread books I decided to divide Asia in two groups as well: Central and West Asia on the one hand and East and Southeast Asia on the other. And now I have to stop thinking about it otherwise I will end up with one book for each country in the world :-)

______________________________

A) Europa:
1) Tödliche Schritte. Ein Fall für eine Kölner Kommissarin von Felizitas Carmann => Deutschland, Europa Krimi
2) Tod eines Tenors von Rhys Bown => Grossbritanien, Europa Krimi
3) Der Hund aus Terracotta von Andrea Camilleri => Italien, Europa Krimi
4) Paradies von Liza Marklund => Schweden, Europa Krimi
5) Die leichten Schritte des Wahnsinns von Polina Daschkowa => Russland, Europa (+Asien) Krimi

B) Australien, Neuseeland & Ozeanien:

Ebenfalls meine erste Lese-Challenge!

Yesterday, I decided to give it a try! Due to the fact that I'll have to read lots of rings this year ;-) I'll simplify the Challenge to that a book counts to a country if the author descends from there, and if I cannot find anything, it's alright if the story is set there.

Liste/List:

I'm through, and I'm glad to "have to" read lots of other "exotic" authors for the Olympia-challenge - it was a very nice challenge!

10 out of 10

Amerika
1) USA: Die Brautprinzessin von William Goldman
(Bookring)
2) Argentinien: Das Papierhaus von Carlos Maria Dominguez
(Bookring)
Es füllt sich langsam.

Afrika

1) Senegal: Der Bauch des Ozeans von Fatou Diome
2) Marokko: Das nackte Brot von Mohamed Choukri
(Bookring)
3) Ägypten: Die Kinder unseres Viertels von Nagib Machfus

4) Simbabwe: Ein Koch für Mma Ramotswe von Alexander McCall Smith (Bookray)
Jetzt fehlt nur noch eins!

Australien/Ozeanien

1) Tonga: Rückkehr durch die Hintertür von Epeli Hau´ofa (Bookring)

I just realized that I had not yet put an entry into this journal so ... here goes. I joined this challenge a bit late, after I had already started on the Olympic Challenge. I'm keeping my progress toward both of them on
my bookshelf with links and all, but I'll put a copy of what I've read for this challenge here, too. I basically counted the first 5 books from each continent for this (excluding poems & short stories).

Thanks so much to all who've shared with me - the reading lists, bookrings and bookrays, trades, and RABCKs are a big part of what has gotten me this far in both of these international reading challenges. I have read some truly wonderful books that I might not have opened up without these goals. I've also read some books that I didn't enjoy. But those were fewer, and I feel that even some of them gave me some growth and food for thought.

In the spirit of returning some of that good karma, I am marking most of my international authors as "Available" on my bookshelf as I finish. And I've started several bookrings and bookrays which are listed on my bookshelf. Please PM me if you'd like to be added to a ring or ray that's active. And don't hesitate to request a trade or gift of one of my Available books.
