Bought in Altrincham.
When I saw the sources quoted at the start, I was pleased to see that of Sterling Seagrave, but my heart sank when it went on to quote Morrison. I wrongly came to the conclusion that it would paint the Empress in the traditional evel role.
Then the start, with her living in Beijing, contradicted what I had read from Seagrave.
However I persevered and slowly realised it was a well studied and sympathetic protrayal of the Empress.
A very good book. It finishes at a rather odd time, I suspect a sequel is planned.
