It's one of the all time classics, as recently released to film starring Tom Cruise.

Hope whoever finds it likes it as much as I did.

Enjoy!

So I was sitting on the bus - going to visit my boyfriend in Edinburgh, as I do when I have a day off, when the guy sitting behind me asked if I had lost this book. I totally hadn't, and was thinking I should really give it to the driver, but I'd always meant to read War Of The Worlds & had never gotten round to it so, with a slightly guilty conscience, I took the book with me & discovered that it wasn't lost at all!

I really enjoyed the book. While at times the language and descriptions can feel a little stiff, the concept and plot are so original and visionary, considering it was written over 100 years ago, that you can really see how it has influenced books and film ever since.

I genuinely lost the book in my parents house for about a month over christmas, but now I've found it I think I'll set it free in waverly train station, in Edinburgh, so that it can continue its journey!

Hello, I am TMAG. I was delighted to find this book at Edinburgh train station last weekend, outside WHS. I actually asked a girl nearby if it was hers and she said no... So I took it - then I looked inside it. Never heard of BookCrossing before but it seems like an excellent idea. I have only read the first couple of chapters now so I'll come back and write more when I've finished it.

From TMAG: Right, I've read it now. Now that I've had the chance to think about it, I've decided it's really good although there were points when thought it was a bit not so good.
I'm not a reviewer - I've never done this before, so I'm going to handle it in my own way. (Badly) And make it short. Right I've decided on bullet points. I don't have much time.
-Typeface is too small
-Can't get Tom Cruise out of my head when reading it - and I haven't even seen that film
-I LOVE the old school language - an absolute joy to read from this point of view.
-It talks about places I know quite well - getting destroyed! I liked that
-Can't believe how much ground the bloke covers in the story - it's ridiculous. All over London and the home counties it seems.
-Wells paints the mass confusion / terror very well. The Martians are well described. And the effect of the situation on human behaviour too.
- There is some characterisation and themes covered, like man's arrogance assuming to be the dominant force in the universe / parallels with man's treatment of 'lesser' animals and the Martians' behaviour, but the book is basically an action adventure - nothing wrong with that.
-I like the way the main character isn't some big hero but an average guy just trying to stay alive
-Not a standard action ending (well it was over 100 years ago) which is good.

Im going to release this somewhere in London on Monday.
