It's always a shock to pick up a book to read and ... gasp ... it isn't registered! I've had this one for months!! Actually, I bought this one because I started Lost In A Good Book only to discover nearly immediately that it was a sequel. And so I'm starting with this one.

I still can't really form an opinion about this book! I did just finish it, though, and will probably put it up for a book ray.

I do like the play on words for the characters' names and laughed out loud over Jack Schitt's finale in the book.

I liked the alternative history in the book, and found Thursday's father to be quite delightful.

snipped from the back cover:

Welcome to the surreal version of Great Britain, circa 1985, where time travel is routine, cloning is a reality (dodos are the resurrected pet of choice), and literature is taken very, very seriously...

Just received in the post today- will get to it as soon as I have finished my other bookring book.

After the first few pages, I wasn't convinced I was going to like this book. The concepts of Thursday Next's world seemed a little too challenging for my skills at suspending disbelief.
Happily, I was wrong.
Like The Time Traveller's Wife, these implausible concepts are presented so matter-of-factly that it is hard not to be swept into the course of the novel.
The Eyre Affair is easy to read and engaging, if not especially weighty. I look forward to reading more of Thursday's adventures.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Thank you so much for starting this bookring, reader - what a fantastic book! This was exactly my type of read - humerous, fast-paced, with a little bit of fantasy aspects chucked in there. Happy reading to all the people still left on the list - you are in for a cracker :)

I posted it off to WelshHelen this afternoon. It should reach you in 7-10 working days :)

What a brilliant book! Loved the word-play and ideas such as the bookworms being badly affected by what they read :-), the Richard III play, the dodos and the whole jumping in and out of books made me smile and will stay with me for a while. Oh, and as a Welsh woman living in England - and a Welsh-speaker - I'm probably a spy :-)

PMd jessicaloveyou today for her address.
