This is the first book of Michael Palin I have read- I'll definitely put all the others on my wishlist. What an awesome read. His encounters with the people of the Himalaya are vividly described in his "diary". I often closed my eyes to picture the smell, the light, the atmosphere. Absolutely wonderful.
I have seen bits and pieces of his TV series, but never the whole thing, something I regret now. Oh well I am sure they'll broadcast them again in a few years.
Thank you for sharing Cyzaki-will mail it out to Bulgaria when I get the address.

Journal Entry 10 by zzz from Rakovica / Раковица, City of Belgrade Serbia on Wednesday, May 17, 2006
Book has arrived today safe and sound. Looking forward to read it, however since I'm in the army right now I don't have nearly enough time for reading as I used to. Therefore maybe I'll keep it little longer than usual but no worries, book is in safe hands of one mountaineer :-) (by the way I LOVE photos!)

Thank you neighbor for such a lovely postcard!
Срдачни поздрави из Србије!
:-)

Journal Entry 11 by zzz from Rakovica / Раковица, City of Belgrade Serbia on Wednesday, May 17, 2006

Journal Entry 12 by zzz from Rakovica / Раковица, City of Belgrade Serbia on Thursday, July 20, 2006
This book is amazing! After only few pages I've added it on my wishlist for my permanent collection.
I'm very sorry cause I was so slow but since I'm in the army I don't have so many free time for reading.
Anyway I'm still in Indian Himalaya but yesterday I received Birthday package with copy of "Himalaya" in it. Therefore this copy will continue its journey as soon as I get Zenita's address and I'll continue my Himalayan journey with Michael Palin from my own copy.
Cyzaki thank you very much for sharing this great book with us! I hope everyone will enjoy in this adventure as much as I'm enjoying!
Cheers!

Travelling to midwinter via economy mail

Journal Entry 19 by midwinter from Tucson, Arizona USA on Monday, January 15, 2007
Truly strange - I journalled this book about 2 weeks ago, but my entry seems to have dissapeared. Rest assured the book is here and safe, and I'm about 50 pages from finishing :)

Journal Entry 20 by midwinter from Tucson, Arizona USA on Monday, January 15, 2007
Where to begin? I caught Palin's Around the World in 80 Days series on PBS a few years ago, and I've been a big fan of his BBC travel shows ever since. I didn't even know he had filmed a Himalaya trek, but as soon as I saw the bookring announcement, I jumped on it. I found the first hundred or so pages to be a bit tedious (probably due to my mood and not the book itself), but right around Everest, I got hooked, and I've hardly put the book down since then. The pictures are wonderful and really bring things to life. Palin's style is so engaging, too. He's just the kind of person you'd want to make a 6-month trek with, you know?
Very glad I had a chance to read this! Will be travelling again as soon as I have an address. Thanks, all :)

Journal Entry 21 by Mamikaem from Maryland Heights, Missouri USA on Tuesday, January 23, 2007
Received this today. I'm looking forward to this as I watched part of the documentary while enroute (bypassing the Himalayas) from Dhaka, Bangladesh to London last year. I have a few books in front of it, but will get to it as soon as I can. Thanks!

UPDATE: March 4, 2007 - starting this at last!

April 17, 2007 - Thanks for your patience! I have been reading this when I can during my 76+ hour work weeks! I have such a passion for this part of the world, so I'm clinging to every word! I'm almost finished and will send it on as soon as I'm done!

Journal Entry 22 by Mamikaem from Maryland Heights, Missouri USA on Monday, April 23, 2007
Finished at last!

I was captivated throughout the whole book and sad to see it end. But oh! What an adventure!

Thank you for your patience. Mailed to Nomijo on 05/15/07.

Journal Entry 23 by NomiJo from Scarsdale, New York USA on Monday, May 21, 2007
Thank you Mamikaem and Cyzaki for the chance to read this book - it sounds like everyone has loved it, so I will put it straight in to my reading pile and begin. I will say this, I opened it just briefly yesterday and I can see that some of the pages with photos have come out from the binding. I am sure I wouldn't know how to fix them, so I will just be very careful with the book.

Journal Entry 24 by NomiJo from Scarsdale, New York USA on Wednesday, August 8, 2007
I really had trouble reading this book at first, and then somewhere along the way, I just started being able to go with the flow, follow along, and suddenly it was the best book I was reading. I think this really speaks to how foreign the millieu was that Palin was in and how he kept at it until I could enjoy even the things that I didn''t understand. It was a great window onto a world I will never visit, I imagine, and really a perfect travel book.
I have contacted PRCS and will send it along when I have that address.
