This is such a great wacky little book! Both the photographs & texts are guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face:) Ok, so the idea of photographing plastic chicks surrounded by doll house furniture might sound strange but the book is really, really funny! I just laugh every time I pick it up and look at the images:o)

From Publishers Weekly:
Wee, bright yellow, plastic chicks complain about shopping, calories and boyfriends in this sassy volume by visual artist Tanen. The collection features full-page colour photographs in which the author's tiny, beady-eyed chicks confront a hilarious selection of modern (and sometimes fantastical) situations. In one picture, for example, a chick expresses frustration over a crowded exercise class ("Maude was peeved. Her 3:30 yoga class was full again. Didn't anybody work in this town?"). In another, a princess chick stares at the frog sitting on her bed and decides to terminate their relationship ("Anastasia was through making out with Ian. He was never going to change.") The chicks are darling, and the dioramas in which Tanen places them are perfect. This satirical take on the trials and tribulations of the modern, urbane female is sure to please the very sort it gently teases.

This was really very funny! I had some good laughs. My advise for the next readers: Don't put this on MTBR to pick it up later and read it (probably in one sitting), like you would do with any other ringbook, but instead put it on the coffee or the kitchen table after you received it. Just peek inside every once in a while to get your daily shot of vitamin H until you have finished it. It worked for me!

I never heard of Sloane Tanen before and while searching the net for more info I found this website well worth visiting . I noticed there, she also wrote 'Hatched - the big push from pregnancy to motherhood' and ordered it for my pregnant daughter. I thought it would make a nice present for Easter :-)

I already have Dutchbooky's address. The book has been packed and is now waiting to be taken across the border to save some postage.

I enjoyed this book quite a lot! Very funny, the set up and all the little accessories. It reminded me of my wish as a child to have a doll's house with all kinds of stuff!

Received today in the post - in a very random move my post person left a note to say he/she had tucked the package safely out of sight behind my rubbish bin! Still it's saved me a trip to the local sorting office with it's obscure andnot customer friendly at all opening hours...
Anyway what a great book! I roared with laughter! My favourites are the Bette Davis tribute, the Fenchurch children's 'ailment', the Catholic Schoolgirls and the Jack Spratt & Wife homage :)
I'll try to get the next participant's address soonest so this fab, funny and ironic book can keep travelling.
One things for sure - I'll never look at my Mama's Easter cake decorations in the same way ever again...

Crazy book! It was a lot of fun, but oh, some of this chicks are scary! Funny that they can be looking scared, sad, surprised, wicked... a good job!
One or two scenes I did not get, I'll have to look at them again and try to find some info, there must be some reference I'm not getting.

I'll send this book in a few days, thanks for sharing, as I would never I guessed such a book existed!

A quick romp with some chick's with attitude.

The artist did a fabulous job.

I especially enjoyed the reference to Dorothy and the Wizard fo Oz and Sylvester and Tweety

I really enjoyed this book and shared it with my Mom and with some of the volunteers at the ESL class I volunteer at - I brought it to see if any of my chinese speakers were up to translating the one chinese caption, but it was a very rough translation since LINC three doesn't teach advanced enough english vocabulary.

At the moment I am reading "The Life and Times of Hercule Poirot" another bookring started by "chich".

PS: You are right, Readertoo. I am only a virtual Frenchman.

The French border is only a few kilometres away from the village in Germany where I live. I often make trips, especially by bycicle, to Lauterbourg (German: Lauterburg), Mothern or Wissembourg (German: Weißenburg), 3 little towns, which are communes in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France. All 3 towns are situated on the German border and not far from the German city of Karlsruhe.

A lot of French people work at the Daimler-Benz factory in Wörth, Germany. And a lot of Germans work in the Règion Alsace. We call these people "Grenzgänger", "Grenzpendler" (Grenze = border, Pendler = commuter).

I don`t work or live in France but I like it to be a virtual French bookcrosser and Grenzpendler much more than to be a German bookcrosser.

What a weird but also very funny little book! Tanen's ideas are very creative and I especially loved little Coco and the Cinderella story.

Lovely pictures :) The little chickens were cute and strange (funny how they can look so expressive). I enjoyed it even though I didn't get all the references. The bits about Coco were quite funny, and somehow I find Nigel a strange name for a chicken.. :P

This bunch of super cute chicks has arrived safely here. Once I opened the package I couldn't resist flipping through the book. Pretty soon I've sort of read through it once already, and some pictures just make me laugh: the one where a carload of chicks make a wrong turn and end up in Kentucky, the yoga chick, the body-waxed chick...
I am not quite ready to send this one yet. I'll like to re-read it once before sending on.

This was a fun book. It appears to be a children's book but it is not. This book is filled with adult humor and I found it hilarious.
