I picked this up at my post office on Saturday. I apologize for the delay in journaling that it's arrived safely, it's been one of those weekends.

This looks very interesting! Thank you for sharing this. I've seen these courses in Odyssey Archeology Magazine and I've always wanted to see what they were like.

I am almost half way through the lectures on this DVD ring. Life has simply gotten in the way of me spending more time with these. I am enjoying them and plan on picking up the pace.

Thanks again for sharing these and for the link to other courses. I may have to look into some others as well.

Journal Entry 7 by JeepACV on Tuesday, February 21, 2006
Well, I was finally able to finish this series. Being a book person (like so many of us here) I discovered it takes me longer to watch something than read something. Not surprising, I suppose.

Thanks WeeDragon97 for sharing these DVDs. I found a lot of the correlations fascinating. I went to their website and ordered a catalog!

I have Pyan's address and I will be shipping this on someday this week (as soon as I can get to the post office).

Well, I've only manged to make it half way through the course as I'm having a bunch of health problems, and it's made my time limited.

I'm enjoying the tapes tremendously and will attempt to get the rest finished as quickly as I can manage.

Will PM the originator to be sure she's okay with my holding them awhile longer so I can complete this wonderful course.

Journal Entry 11 by Pyan from Menasha, Wisconsin USA on Monday, May 8, 2006

I have listened to the audio versions of half-dozen Teaching Company courses, and liked them all, but I never tried watching one before.

While I enjoyed the lectures I saw, there is no fault with the course, it is difficult to find time to sit back and just watch. I’m not a big fan of TV or movies and I’m just not in the habit of watching shows.

I’ve held on to this too long and will be passing it on. I’ll try to get an audio version someday and complete the course.

Mailed to the next in line last Tuesday.

This arrived today. I'm looking forward to going through it, although I have a few books to read first.

Journal Entry 18 by hak42 from Durham, New Hampshire USA on Thursday, January 18, 2007
Sorry I've had this so long! I found it difficult to find time to sit and watch the lectures. I think it may have been better if it had been in an audio only format. Thank you for sharing it, WeeDragon97! I'll send it off to the next person as soon as I have their address.

Journal Entry 19 by janey-canuck from Guelph, Ontario Canada on Tuesday, January 30, 2007
Received today. I am looking forward to going through these lectures but I fear it might take a while!

ACK! Time to concede I'll never finish this... contacting the next in line.

Arrived safely today ... looking forward to it. Thanks.

Journal Entry 21 by astro2480 from Lismore, New South Wales Australia on Wednesday, January 30, 2008
Interesting ... but would have been more so as a documentary with pictures 8-)

I can see why people go to sleep during lectures, it can be hard to keep your focus.

Chich asked to be missed ... so this went off to stubee by seamail a couple of days ago.

Thanks WeeDragon97 for starting this.

I must say I watched a few of the lectures on this DVD series and although I found the topic very interesting I didn’t find it conductive studying, by that I mean my style of learning.

Elizabeth Vandiver, I'm afraid, did nothing for me what-so-ever and I found her quite boring to be honest. I think there is so much more that can be done in terms of how media (DVD's etc) is used to help facilitate studying and this is way off the mark in terms of how current technology can be used. Maybe it's just dated after-all this ring was started in 2005 and in the years since The Teaching Company may well have published more intuitive [study tools] lecture DVD's.

I don't want to put anyone off using these DVD's because I'm sure they will work for some, it just wasn't for me.

Thanks so much for sharing this with me WeeDragon97 although it wasn’t my cup of tea in the end I really do appreciating you sharing this with me.

Jaycee1972 asked to be skipped; so I’ve sent this via surface mail to Potok-fan in Finland today [23/06/08].

I'm so impressed that this ring is still going! The dvds and guidebooks arrived today. Thank you to everyone who forwarded the set along, and especially to WeeDragon for starting this ring and sharing the course. I'm looking forward to getting started.

:)

I'm sorry to be taking so long with these, but this is why I asked to be last on the list! ;)

I just wanted to post an update (confessing that I haven't watched very much at all yet), so you know I haven't just dropped out of sight altogether, but also to say this:

I'm so excited about The Teaching Company!! After watching the very first video of this series with my husband, I went to their website and ordered two more courses related to my own teaching areas. And my husband ordered one related to his (he's thinking about offering extra credits to any student who wants to watch it and take an exam), and is thinking about getting more. So part of why I'm behind in watching this one is that I've been busy watching the other ones I bought *because* of this. (I know, I know - that's not in the spirit of a bookring. But I'm hoping that WeeDragon will forgive me.)

I've got a hospital operation coming up next month, and medical leave to follow, during which time I rather think these dvds might be just the ticket.

Journal Entry 27 by potok-fan from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi / Egentliga Finland Finland on Thursday, January 29, 2009
Hello WeeDragon97, I tried to send you this as a PM several weeks ago, but have had no reply yet. Here it is as a journal entry:

As I'm sure you know, your "dvd-ring" for the Teaching Company mythology lectures has been semi-stalled with me for a little over six months. They are not lost - I just have a hard time fitting them in. I was saving them for my post-operation recovery (Nov-Dec), but I didn't have the concentration for them and instead watching the Gilmore Girls (blush).

Please send me your address and let me know a deadline when you'd like me to mail them (bear in mind I will use economy, so the mail could take probably 3 weeks). And then no matter how far along I am, I will put them in the mail back to you. :)

Thanks so much for sharing them, even though I've been so slow. As I wrote in my previous journal entry, they inspired me to purchase two other courses from the Teaching Company, so it's a good example of how bookcrossing can *inspire* rather than prevent purchases ;)

Happy bookcrossing,
Potok-fan
