Synopsis from Amazon

Prime Minister Edward Clare and his wife Adele Floret-Clare live at Number 10 Downing Street. PC Jack Sprat is the policeman who stands outside on the door. Five years ago, Edward Clare was voted into Number 10 after a landslide election result. But now, things are starting to go wrong. The love has gone. The people are turning. In short, it's a very real problem. Edward worries about this. All he wants is for the people of Clare's Britain to like him, and for them to be happy. He enlists the help of Jack Sprat and together they travel round the country incognito, ending up at Jack's childhood home. His mother Norma lives in Leicester, and her address is Number 10 too, but that's where the similarity ends...

Picked up today from the post office. Thank you Jaycee1972 for organising this lovely ring:) Will post more comments after reading it!

23 March 06: finished this yesterday evening. For me it was such a strange read because of the way the characters acted. The situations were almost surreal.
Also, I don't know if I managed to grasp all the parallels with the real political situation in the UK.
I wouldn't have read this book if it weren't for this ring - so I am glad I have joined it as I like to experience different authors and different styles of writing.
Will pm the next reader to get an address.

27 March 06: mailed today!

Journal Entry 5 by Polliejean from Sesimbra, Setúbal Portugal on Wednesday, April 5, 2006
The book arrived today. I´ll try to be fast, though I´ve received 3 rings this week and another one is on the way. Don't know how I managed to do that, normally I have to wait monthes to receive a ring... Back to the book, I´m looking forward to reading it!
Thanks for sending it to me!

I really liked this book. It´s extremely funny and entertaining. Townsend is even more satirical this time and describes her characters aware of the sense of ridiculous, as we were already used since "Adrian Mole". My favourite character was, of course, Jack, but I admit to have enjoyed a feeling of compassion for the Prime Minister. I didn´t enjoy the end, though. Not because it´s not a happy one, but mainly because it is so sudden. Nevertheless, it is a very nice book. Thanks a lot for this opportunity!
I´ll send the book tomorrow to jax987654321.

Looking forward to reading this.

Loved this book, found it easy to read and was into it by page 1! My favourite bit .. several .. first one, the hospital pyschologist scene, where the PM lists his worries ... 2nd one, "approximately 51,842 warts would fit into an average coffin" (you have to read the book to realise the significance of the warts, but this is an excerpt from a radio talk in show and I once had the "pleasure" of being force fed a radio talk show for 2 hours (my car stereo is fixed on whatever side it tunes into during a journey) and believe me, this is a fairly likely response that you hear on these shows!!! Very funny.

As you can see I loved the book, it is as good as the Queen and I, and I loved the ending! (though the mayor of london has got rid of pigeons in trafalgar square now)

Thanks for including me in this ring, will now be PM'ing the next person in the chain and getting the book on the move!

One disclaimer, for all you non - uk people reading this book, England really isn't that bad - mostly you get a fairly decent cream tea if you ask for one etc.

on it's way to Canada to ajsmom - air - so should be with the next person in a week! (would have sent it surface, but the person at the postoffice misheard me and printed a air sticker and I decided that was a sign it should go by air anyway!

Enjoy - I did!!

Caught today, thanks! Have started already.

Verrrry funny. And since Tony and Cherie have been in the news again lately, with plenty of discussion of Cherie (at least in this country), it was good timing. I have often wondered what it would be like if politicians got back in touch with the "regular folk", and found it a little sad that it didn't seem to affect Ed at all. Except, of course, for when he had a gun to his head. *snirk*

Thanks for the ring, Jaycee - I will be PM'ing you for your address so it can wing its' way home!
