I read about this book here on BC and I thought this must be one I'll enjoy! So it went to my wishlist.
One day I ordered something for someone else at amazon... You know, to save the shipping costs I HAD to buy another book! :-) I'm sure YOU know the feeling! ;-) Anyways, so it came that I treated myself to this book... As if my mount TBR wouldn't be high enough... LOL

From amazon:
"Rachel Morgan keeps Cincinnati civilized, a job that got a lot harder when witches, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves came out of hiding. Luckily, she's also a sexy witch with an attitude, and she'll bring 'em back alive, dead - or undead.
All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party ... and to feed.
Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining -- and it’s Rachel Morgan's job to keep that world civilized.
A bounty hunter and witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she'll bring 'em back alive, dead ... or undead."

It took me awhile to get into the story. I was a little bit confused by this alternate future at first, until I got the hang of it what happened.
Rachel is o.k., but can get pretty obnoxious with her "I'm behaving like an idiot"-attitude. Ivy I mostly just want to slap for her sulky and arrogant behaviour. Jenks I liked a lot.
After about half of the book the pace finally picks up and I enjoyed the story and I actually want to read the next book in the series to find out what's the deal with Trent and Nick.

All in all a medium, but entertaining read.

This book will be made into a bookray.

I also started a Ray for the sequel. Let me know if you're interested to join it!
The Good, The Bad and The Undead

Some guidelines:
1. Please journal the book when it arrives (so we know it's safe and sound with you), once you read it (to let us know how you liked it) and when you ship it off (so we know it's on its way to the next reader).

2. Please PM the next person in line before shipping the book off, not only for the adress, but also to ask if they are still interested in the ray!

3. You may always write to me and ask to be bumped down on the list.

4. Surface shipping is perfectly acceptable.

5. Try not to take longer than four weeks to read the book. But we all understand that sometimes life just happens. :-) In that case, please make another journal entry to let us know that the book is not forgotten.

6. And the most important thing: Have fun!

Here are the participants so far. If you would like to join once the ray is started, please PM me. As long as I can fit you in with the shipping preferences you're welcome to join.

10 out of 10

oh my god! what a fine book...it was almost like the "Angel" TV series but better. I really, really enjoyed this book and was sorry it ended. It kept my interest right from the first. Very strong characters...I like all of them for different reasons. I can't wait to read the next book to tie up a few of the loose ends that were left hanging.

PMing Raeliz64 today and when I have her contact details I will send the book on

A good fun read. One of the reviews says that the main character is a cross between Anita Blake and Stephanie Plum, which just about sums her up! Thanks very much to Morgaine77 for starting this ray, I enjoyed it.

10 out of 10

This book has simply been such an entertaining read!

I liked Rachel a lot - very human with all the mistakes she makes, but don't tell her or I'll end up with a sleeping charm around my neck or a nasty spell ;-)
Ivy was acting like a arrognat vampire which didn't quite fit with her orange juice ..
Jenks is just great and I hope to read more about him and his sarcastic comments!!
To keep it short I'm very much looking forward to the sequel because I'm curious to see who this mysterious Nick is and what's the deal with Trent!

7 out of 10

Usually I get into a book pretty fast, but somehow this one is pretty slow going until I'm almost two-thirds into it where the rat fights begin, then it became interesting for me.

Overall, it is a good read and now I'm eager to read more, I especially want to know what Trent is.

Jenks & his entire family make great sidekicks, I love reading about him and his children, and the pixies/fairies politics. I'm glad the author didn't make Rachel an almost invinsible character, but one who is quite vulnerable in her own ways and gave her some pretty amazing backups. The chemistry between Rachel and Ivy positively sizzles, for a while, I thought I wouldn't be able to take it, but I'm glad everything turns out right. I'm also really curious about Ivy and her motives.

Will be sending this on to Luintaurien next.
