I liked this. Really "felt for" the main character as she tried to adjust to America, her arranged marriage, live-in in-laws, and a "secret double life." An enjoyable story from the author of "For Matrimonial Purposes."

Reserving for possible inclusion in the Fiction Book Box.

Like many BookCrossers, I've been enjoying the recent plethora of fiction books on the market about Indian culture, so I had to take this one out of Pyan's Fiction Bookbox to read.

I was surprised that I enjoyed this book so much, because most "chick lit" is not my style. I think it was the description of the culture clash (Indian vs. American), and the way that Prayi overcomes the obstacles in her life that made it interesting to me. I can't say much more without spoiling the plot ... I'll start the bookray as soon as I have the money for postage and time to go to the PO.

After reading so many serious books, I should say this is a refreshing, delightful storytelling. Fast pace and enjoyable for a first timer in chick-lit genre. Next to Azuki in Florida.

A totally delightful read. I like how all characters are just normal people, not perfect but neither evilly portraited like Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada). The ending is a little too perfect too sweet but I guess that's what makes chick lit.
Will mail out next week to darkpunkangel.

WOW! This is great, I'm glad for both Sanjay and Priya at the end. I never liked the in-laws, but I guess they were really old-fashioned and did not understand the modern ways. I'm glad it was a happy ending though :D!

I'll be sending this to the next person soon.

I enjoyed this book. It was amusing and easy for me to relate with the main character although our lives are very different. I'd like to read more from this author.

Sending on to LGinder today...

What a delightful little book! I picked it up last, to avoid mindless tv, and found myself 100 pages into by the time I went to bed. Needless to say I "found the time" to pick it back up and finish it today ... days like today are rare and I must say I enjoyed my time reading! Interesting to read about women's roles in the Indian family.

As I'm last on the list I will be enclosing this in a "flower power" bookbox that is coming my way next week.

Thanks!

I'm removing this from sweetsangria's Flower Power Bookbox. I seem to be gravitating towards books about Indian culture and this one sounds light and uplifting. I couldn't resist it - thanks for adding it to the bookbox, LGinder.

I loved this! It was warm and funny and I really enjoyed the references to karma...Priya's grandmother has a list of "things guaranteed to blight one's karma into infinity" (namely, malicious gossip and eavesdropping). I'm always interested in the way women in some cultures have to struggle with traditional and demanding in-laws. I am going to put For Matrimonial Purposes on my wishlist!

To be released this weekend for 4 release challenges:
DragonGoddess' Tick Tock Challenge
guinaveve's Keep Them Moving Challenge
cafekat's 52 Towns in 52 Weeks Challenge
