--DIFFERENT COVER ART--

From inside cover: Ever heard of a culling song? It's a lullaby sung in Africa to give a painless death to the old or infirm. The lyrics of a culling song kill, whether spoken or even just thought. You can find one on page 27 of Poems and Rhymes From Around the World, an anthology that is on the shelves of libraries across the country. When reporter Carl Streator discovers that unsuspecting readers are reciting the poem and accidentally killing their children, he begins a desperate cross-country quest to put the culling song to rest and save the nation from certain disaster.

My thoughts: This is typical Palhanuk, being his usual bizarre self. He covers lots of subjects in this one: Wiccan/witchcraft, extreme vegaism, the negative effects of humanity on the enviroment in general, ghosts, etc. It's probably not my favorite of his, but it was a quick read that I enjoyed well enough. He makes statemens in it, though it is hard to tell if he believes them himself, or just thinks they make good "copy". If you like his work, you'll like this too, though it isn't one of his more memorable works, I don't think.
