My husband received this mass paperback (Signet, 2005) from a friend in Bethesda, Maryland. He and the person from whom he received it gave me permission to pass it on to other interested readers. I am not interested in reading it as I "don't do mysteries".

The beginning lines of this book:
"It wasn't that Dorothy was nosy. She was going through the backpack because it stank. Five days' worth of rotted food leaked from brown lunch bags--a microbe's dream. After carefully extracting the olfactory offense with her fingertips, she saw something at the bottom, partially buried beneath crumpled papers and textbooks. Just the merest wink of..." (PM Squeakychu to join this bookray!)

There are two stories in this book:
This from the back of the book about the first story:
Double Homicide: Boston
"After a basketball match leads to a fatal shooting, Detectievs Dorothy Breton and Michael McCain are looking to make an open-and-shut case. For Dorothy, who knows the victim's mother, the crime hits close to home. And for Micky, the investigation is poor consolation for being alone this holiday season. Then startling evidence comes to light. Now two experienced cops can either keep it simple...or do what's right."

I enjoyed the first of the stories the best I felt it was more rounded. I preferred the 2 main characters Two Moons & Katz in the second story to those in the first but I felt the story just stopped...dead & that there was no resolution only questions.

I have WelshHelen's address & will get this in the post asap.

I was really looking forward to this book as I like both Jonathan and Faye Kellerman's individual work. I was pretty disappointed in the first story, though. I didn't particularly like the characters and didn't care that much what happened. The second story was better - certainly more interesting characters. Like scotsbookie, I felt that the story stopped abruptly. I wish they'd had more pages to fill out the second story :-) Overall, a disappointment, sadly.

Posted on to spiderchic today.

I found this a very quick and okay read. I also have to agree with the ending of second story. It seemed to end very quickly and rushed.
Have read many of Jonathan Kellermans books and a few of Faye's and I have to say I was rather disappointed with this offering compared to their other work.
Shall pm beekeeper40 for their address.
Thank you for sharing

I found this a very quick and easy read. The two stories were Ok but I prefer more substance to my crime fiction. Will try a full length novel from one of these authors in future.

Sending on to Kleptokitty once I have their address.

6 out of 10

Received yesterday along with the most fabulous stitched bookmark from Beekeeper40 which really made my day.

It was a really quick read, I was through with it by this morning. Whilst OK to while away a couple of hours, it was lacking substance and a bit of a disappointment. I suspect that this is a book which has sold on the back of the Kellerman's other work rather than on any merit of it's own.

However, it's one that was on my wishlist so I'm very pleased to have been offered the opportunity to read it. Thankyou SqueakyChu.

I've just PMed the next reader and will get it off as soon as I've got an address.

12/2/06

I have this wrapped, addressed & ready to go, but I apologise that I'm not able to get to the Post Office straight away. We live in a very remote area & my car is in the garage just now. I'll get it off just as soon as I can. Sorry for the hold up.
