"Ellie and Dan are living proof that opposites attract.

He always follows instructions and she throws the manual away. He loves sport whereas Ellie's allergic to any form of exercise. Ellie doesn't have a mother. And Dan does - a mother who wants to take over... EVERYTHING.

At first Ellie is thrilled to have Linda as her 'adopted' mother and to be a part of the close, loving Cooper family. But when she and Dan decide to get married and wedding plans progress, she starts to wonder: is it normal for Linda and Dan to speak on the phone twice a day? How on earth did they come to be having a reception with Chilean bloody seabass and humongous bloody white ribbons everywhere when all she wanted was a quiet register office do?

Is Ellie marrying Dan... OR HIS MOTHER?"

This book was definitely not what I expected! I read it a little while ago but just haven't got round to journalling it until now. Without wanting to ruin the story, this review is likely to contain some spoilers, so apologies for that.

The animosity between the main character and her mother in law is kind of unsurprising in this type of book, but it is surprising how it comes about. The fact that there is an injured child in the book who spends a significant amount of time in hospital made this very hard reading for me given the history of my tiny twins, but I suspect that any parent will have a similar reaction. You can't help but put yourself in their position and that is not a nice place to be.

There are a lot of twists and turns in the story, and it is generally a good book. But like I say, I found it hard to read. There are definitely a lot of typical chick-lit aspects to this book, but a lot of very different notes within it as well. Not a bad read, and someone who does not have small children will likely enjoy it even more than I did (and I did generally enjoy it!).

I hope it finds an appreciative reader.
