I bought this book from Book and Comic Emporium in Vancouver on honeymoon.

I read The tipping point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference (Malcom Gladwell) earlier in the year and this book looks at a similar topic, fads, but as fiction.

I loved that this book was set in a corporation where management try and improve the liklihood of winning prizes by introducing new management ideas and 'streamlined' processes so the staff spend so long trying to fill in forms that they can't actually do their work. Then the lead character Sandra Foster is so dedicated to her research that she sees everything in relation to fads, from entries in the personals to clothing. It all adds up to a humourous, light hearted and easy read with some interesting ideas, and if you want to follow up on those ideas I would recommend the Gladwell book mentioned previously.

Passed on to me by akg - have started it, and am enjoying it so far. Will aim to finish before Christmas, and pass on. Hope it doesn't get caught in the Christmas post :-)

Arrived safely, many thanks!

Great book, I really enjoyed it. Fiction based in science rather than science fiction, if you see what I mean. The theme of fads reminded me very slightly of Pattern Recognition. I must see if I can get hold of the Gladwell book.

Thanks for sharing it akg. It should be off to sunlightbub within the next day or two.

I really enjoyed this and it was a quick read.. I'll probably be whipped for this, but it seemed to be sort of scientific Chicklit..but that might just be me..lol

I really loved the paragraphs at the beginning of each chapter with the info about fads and I'll look for more books by this author. Thanks for sharing.

Very much enjoyed this book, although TOH has just tried to read it and found he doesn't like Connie Willis (his loss).
I'm going to post this on to my BookSwap recipient who i think is Tutleymutley but i can't remember exactly ...

Received this - along with several bookrings, so probably won't be able to get round to reading it for a while. Thanks Shelbycat - looks like a light read for summer hols.

I'm half way through, but enjoying so far. I've been a member of book crossing for about 15 years and this is the first time I've found a book! Very exciting.
