This book is set in Israel. Dana, a young Israeli woman is searching for her husband who has disappeared after becoming disfigured serving in the Israeli Army. A large amount of the book is concerned with portraying how psychologically damaging it is to live in a country filled with strife and danger. The ending is somewhat satisfying.
